I have a case of a buyer who has bought a USED item and discovered a single pulled thread and now wants a refund. sigh. Oh and they've decided the design of the dress means it was supposed to come with a belt, even though there was no belt in the auction, and it's a BABY dress. I doubt they'll want to send it back so this may be pointless, but for future reference.

In looking into the MBG I find that seller is responsible for the cost of the return postage. I also find that ebay provides a label. Ebay cannot currently do labels for large letters. Does that mean my $8 item with $2.50 postage, if sent back through the official return button, will cost me $7.20 for the buyer to return??? I could deal with the MBG and all it entailed, but to pay 3 times more postage because ebay refuses to recognise large letters is just... absurd. Have I got this all right?

It's kinda like a game of chicken, how far can I push the buyer to doing what's fair before they get fed up and just call ebay in, where I know I will get screwed.

Chances are this will be one of those cases where Ebay tells the customer there is no need to return it as it is not economically viable. In that case they will likely just refund the buyer the $10.50. Maybe rather than ask Ebay to get involved you could negotiate a partial refund with the buyer instead?

The seller only pays the return postage if the buyer wins a not as described dispute so if there was no belt and a picture of the 'fault' shows it is not a significant fault or you can convince ebay the buyer caused the damage then you will not have to refund the cost of a return.

Sounds to me like the buyer is basically angling for a partial refund (i.e. discount).

I agree with above , if the only issue they have with it is the belt offer a partial refund first , I have done this before , sometimes they agree and sometimes reply rudely back , good luck
