Sticky taping stamps to envelopes?

I was advised to sticky tape stamps to bubble bags when posting something to avoid risk. Now someone else is telling me they will reject the postage if you do that, because they will think you have reused a stamp and needed tape to stick it. Is this true?

it's a no no putting tape over the stamps. They can't cancel the stamps if you do that.

the most adhesive way I've found is the postage label issued by the Post Office.

Of course most people don't want to line up at the PO just to mail a letter.

What I have done in the past for a plastic bubble bag is use a little sticky-tape just along the bottom edge.

Better to buy bubble bags that only have bubble on the inside. There are many variations available on ebay or at the PO.

Sometimes, when I've been a little worried, I'll put sticky tape over about a third of the stamps, usually either a strip over the lower third, or if I'm using 2 x 70c stamps, a narrow strip down the middle of two. It holds them in place but doesn't cover them, so they can still be easily cancelled.

I sent 2 items with stamps sticky taped all over... Does this mean they will be rejected?

I need a confirmed answer so that I send them again immediately if need be. I can't risk negative feedback at this stage.

we can't tell you definitely one way or another.

my personal opinion is that Australia Post are too busy at this time of year to worry about a bit of sticky tape. Just don't make a habit of it.

I would not sweat it.

I get plenty of mail with sticky taped down stamps.

Aust Post have also issued stamps from time to time that do not have the level of optimum stickyness

If by a very, very slim chance there was an issue and you have put your address on the article - you should get any underpaid bill, not the buyer.

My PO often stick tape over the stamps themselves if they think they look a bit insecure.

About 18-months ago we were having a terrible time with stamps falling off envelopes and we were getting the fines for that.

We approached our local PO for help and while they would not admit fault with the stamps they did sguuest that we put tape over them to hold them down.

We used the cheap narrow rolls you get from Coles so it didn't cover the entire stamp. Just across the middle.

We don't do it now as they have revised the stamp making process to the larger format stamps and they don't fall off any more.

Even tho we lodged a formal complaint to the PO they never admitted fault, but for some strange reason they fixed the problem later.

At the time there were other sellers on these boards having the same issue.

So during that time we never got any trouble from AP for taping them down.

My bubble envelopes were being returned to me and my local PO

advised me to sticky tape them on. I have seen them sticky tape stamps

as well.

They also advised me to sticky tape the stamps for international mail

as overseas mail sorters (particularly Russia) liked to collect Aussie stamps.

I don't know how true that is, but it takes so long to get mail to Russia anyway

I don't need mail returned just so I can re-send it.

Meh I'm soooo confused right now! Some are saying AP advised them not to, some are saying AP has advised them to do so, some are saying it is not allowed. I've posted through the AP box across the street only so far. I might post through an Aus Post outlet for the next postage to try and get some more information

I received 2 packages just before Christmas with multiple stamps on them. In both cases sticky tape had been used to keep the stamps secure but not covered completely.....jut on the top or bottom of the stamps so the postmark was still visible on part of each stamp.

Okay to partly sticky tape down on any parcel, my country store does it.
Just don't cover the whole stamp.

Yes, I have seen the AP staff do that too. Maybe after they have date stamped/franked it though?

Plastic bubble mailers are hard to get stamps to stick on without tape, but paper bubble mailer bags are OK.

If the mailed item has the correct amount of postage on it, and tape over the stamps I can't see the postal sorters rejecting it... what would they do with item that needs delivering? If rejected only because of tape - which means they won't send it on to the recipient, then they can't send it back to sender either.

Gosh confuse the OP even more am.

Goods that are unable to be delivered (unless illegal items of course) are returned to sender if return address is on article.

In the highly unlikely case of the stamps not being accepted due to the tape, the OP should get an underpaid post bill if they have put their address on the item, if they have not, the addressee can collect if they pay the post cost.

Why are they unable to be delivered, if they have the correct postage on them? Often mail dropped in streetside post boxes don't get franked/post marked anyway.

Has anyone here ever had an article returned to them because they put tape over the postage stamps?

As mentioned above, the PO Staff put tape over the stamps sometimes. I used to use plastic bubble mailer bags, and staff would slap some tape on over the stamps to hold them on better.

Where is it stated on Australia post website/terms and conditions that you aren't allowed to put tape on stamps?
