The value is multiplied but then the listing fee is capped so if you were selling 3 x $10 items the value would be deemed to be $30 and the listing fee would be $1.50 but, as per your previous example, if you had a listing that was offeing 100 x $10 items, the fee would be capped at $3.00 🙂

multi variant listings

Hi all 🙂 I havent sold much for a while but decided to get back into the swing of things but I'm a bit confused by the multivariant listing policy. I sell mainly collectibles like coins and stamps. for eg If i have those round 50c coins that look the same but have different years or different flaws, do I do a seperate listing for ea or a multi variant listing. I'm too scared to list anything even closely resembling my item as I got a caution for one of my items in the first week back listing and dont want to risk being shut down. Is $1 coin different enought from a 50c piece to be listed seperately. Is australian stamps different enough from world stamps?

Also I wanted to know if u can do a multivariant listing from an iphone or ipad and if so how?

I have just downloaded the garage sale app but couldnt find the part where I could add other items. Does anyone else use the garage sale app on their i devices? Sorry to ask so many questions but I have so much I want to list but now sure how to go about it without getting into trouble.

Pretty sure you can only do multi variant listings when you have a store. Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly for sure.

You need a store, or to be a Power Seller, or to be registered as a business to do a variant listing, and it's not available in all categories - pretty sure it's not available in collectibles, stamps or coin categories. Without a store, a variant listing will incure an insertion fee per item available, too. (With a store, a listing containing 100 items, no matter what the price, will cost 20c. Without a store, if you make 100 items available in a listing at say $10 each, the insertion fee for the one listing would be $50 - and the duration is 10 days max, whereas the 20c fee with a store is for up to 30 days).

In general, the variant listing format is for the same item that has variations like colour or size (eg the same t-shirt by the same brand, available in different sizes and colours, or the same sheet set in different sizes). There are other things that are fundamentally the same that can not use a variant listing - eg CDs by different artists, or different book titles by the same author.

The round 50c coin would, as far as I know, qualify for a variant listing, but different stamps would not.

AS there are no multi variant listings available in stamps or coin categories you dont need to worry, just make a separate listing for each coin/stamp you are selling

you asked.for eg If i have those round 50c coins that look the same but have different years

50c rounds only come in ONE YEAR. (1966) so no problem there either.

So I'm trying to work out where I went wrong before I get myself in trouble.

put simply, unless ebay offers a drop down choice menu in a category you are using (mostly I think in clothing), you cannot offer variations.

you cannot do, for example, a photo of 10 different stamps and price at ).99c and ask the buyer to pick which one they want. that is against ebay rulings.

As there is no option currently to list items like toys and collectibles with a variation listing, it's kind of a moot point - I'm not sure how your other listings were breaching policy, but just be aware of the fact that if you list an item in the incorrect category just to be able to make use of the variant format, that is also a policy breach.

Quantity is an acceptable variation for the same item, so if you have some items that can be correctly listed with the variation format, you can list them in different lot sizes.

I'm afraid I can't answer the question re: iphones. I don't have one, although... If you find it doesn't work using an app, try using the classic site. There are apparently some functions that either don't work properly or aren't available on the apps, but work fine if you use the classic site.
