Why dont buyers leave feedback??

I've not had many sales, but I'd say half or so I struggle with getting the buyers to leave feedback. I know eBay "reminds" them to leave feedback, but obviously some of them ignore this, or simply can't be bothered.

When I buy an item, I leave feedback as soon as I know if the item is any good or not. Are any other sellers having problems with this? Its got so bad with mine I'm having to contact buyers to remind them, and even then, they're still not leaving feedback!

Everyone who does leave feedback for me only has positive things to say - and I have a 100% score - so why do some buyers simply not bother??

Feedback is voluntary and some people don't see it as a necessary thing. I'm not that worried about feedback now as I have enough, but I can fully understand why it is still important to you. I'm not sure sending buyers a reminder message is a good idea because that can upset some buyers and they could retaliate by trashing your feedback. Some will suggest leaving it for the buyers first. That may or may not work. Some buyers think, well I've got MY feedback, stuff the seller!

These days I don't leave it until the buyer has left it for me. I'd say around 50-60% of my buyers leave it for me. When I used to leave it first, I rarely got it back, which is why I stopped leaving it first.

I don't know if there are any real answers as to why buyers don't want to leave it. Think of it as being 100% positive feedback for those that don't leave it. It means they have got their item and are happy with it, so they won't open a dispute or trash your feedback. It doesn't help get your numbers up though!!

1.Feedback is VOLUNTARY !

2.By "reminding" buyers to leave feedback you risk receiving negs !

3.You sell,buyer pays(hopefully),you send the item & buyer receives same(hopefully) & the transaction is complete.

4.I would be lucky to receive 50% feedback(buying/selling) & do not worry about it.

5.Refer to point 1. to see why "some buyers simply not bother".

6.Chin up & carry on up the pass to lay siege to the heathen !!!

you could leave a note in your discription like "please leave feedback as this confirms that you have recieved your item "

and "if you are not happy with your item please let me know before leaving feedback as most problems can be resolved "

but I personally would not push the feedback issue because you run the risk of annoying someone into leaving bad feedback

and if you get any defect on such a low score your selling experience could be short lived unfortunately

believe me no feedback is better than bad feedback

just concentrate on perfect service and hopefully good feedback will follow

The rate of buyers leaving feedback is dopping for me. Traditionally it was around the 80% mark, now its 50-60%. It doesn't affect defect % as it is a % of sales not fb left.

just to add to what I have just said

I have bought hundreds of items from Ebay and there have been more than a dozen that I have not been particularly happy with

not exactly as described , but I have never left bad feedback for any of them

because I do allow for human error , other people may not be so kind

so the feedback that you have not recieved may be from that percentage of people that have not responded

I have found that excellent condition means different things to different people and some people are never satified

no matter how hard you try

I was refering to defect for neg feedback

If a buyer requests a return for IND you get an automatic defect and potentially a neg. as well

As a seller I leave feedback as soon as the person has paid, as they have completed that part of the sale.

As a buyer I dont leave feedback until the seller does.

But this is me, so lots of sellers do not get feedback of me.

I would get annoyed if a seller prompted me to leave feedback.

People buy from a lot of different online retailers now, eBay is probably the only one that has a feedback provision (others might have product review options.)

In my opinion many buyers just don't feel the need to leave it.

Just thought I'd mention.... eBay's new feedback reminders are horrible. 😞

I changed my settings on this account years ago so that I would never receive any, and if I could stop eBay from sending them to my buyers, I would have done that years ago too. I believe they used to say "Feedback reminder" or "don't forget to leave feedback" in the subject line, but now the subject line is just: Leave Feedback.

That's so rude! 😮 And with many buyers thinking sellers send these reminders, I can only imagine what it's going to end up doing in some cases.

No FB means no defects from feedback, so these days I really don't mind if someone doesn't leave me any, 'cos I'm getting really tired of opening ebay and my first thought not being "ok, let's see what order I have to process today" like it used to be, but instead "ok, let's see what damage has been done to my account today..." >_>

I don't 'ask' for feedback but sometimes I will message the buyer to check they have received the item

and all is ok (I might also mention that I leave feedback at the end of the transaction once I know everything

is ok).

This way I have my answer (that the item got to them ok) so no 'need' for feedback really.

I have never had anyone respond negatively to this approach - occasionally it will see some

feedback being left...

p.s I do agree that less feedback seems to be left these days. Could this have anything to do

with so many people using smart devices? I find communication in general to be more abrupt

and brief these days, sometimes even non existant.... (even ebay listing descriptions a lot

shorter etc)

I guess as a relatively new seller feedback is more important for me and others; one of the biggest factors in getting feedback personally is that it gives a certain level of peace of mind that at least there is documented evidence that the buyer received their item and are relatively happy. No feedback just increases the sense of worry that something may go wrong, legitimately or not? IMHO

Rather than sweat on the feedback perhaps just shoot them a message through the ebay system to see if all ok/item received? - that way you have something in writing for your own 'peace of mind'.

Mostly, I try not to worry about anything unless I have to, but I'm feeling a bit more sensitive to feedback and defects this week after dealing with a buyer that was the most unpleasant I've had to deal with in 6 years (they were probably quite tame compared to others I've heard stories about, but they managed to both p**s me off and prompted me to have a dream the other night that I got so many defects I was about to be suspended from selling. Strangely, it wasn't a nightmare, though, and dream-me's solution to try and counter the imminent suspension was interesting, but I also got annoyed this carp is permeating my dreamworld, now... )

By which I mean to say, just speaking for myself, at the moment no feedback is - in some ways, or at least, from some buyers - a relief. In saying that, I do have to acknowledge that I have a few thousand FB and get enough sales to have the 3-month look-back instead of the 12 month evaluation for defects, so I probably look at it all from a slightly different perspective than someone else who's trying to build a history and reputation while contending with eBay's policies.

Yes, I have done that on occasions and had good results from it! But, like others at the moment there is caution in doing this because potentially it does alert buyers that perhaps there is an issue with tracking? Simply not worth doing it, also most of the messages I send as courtesy messages are ignored anyway, perhaps a sign of the digital age? But thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, I think people got the wrong idea when I said I 'remind' buyers to leave feedback - what I meant was, I do the same as you & just ask if everything is ok and if the parcel arrived, and that I would appreciate feedback.

I don't force it down their throats haha

Yes, I do understand what you are saying; good feedback is the best outcome of course, no feedback is not ideal, but better than neg feedback, but can leave you hanging, especially on some of the transactions, say from a newish buyer with low feedback. Or in the case of one of my lastest transactions in which the item lay in wait at the LPO for 10 days!! Thankfully that may have turned out ok, but there is always a nagging seed in there wondering if something may go wrong?
