Definitely list your postage separately - eBay will then only charge you FVF on the price the item sells for if you combine them you get charged the extra.

Postage Advice!

Hi expert ebayers... Need your advice once again. So my fishing reels have finally finished in production and I have just listed a few of them on ebay which I am very excited about...however postage I am finding a little tricky... Two questions for you all: If I had my postage seperate does ebay sting you on the price of your product as well as the postage fee price?

Also am I better off just combining the postage fee onto the price of the product ?

Your advice in the past has been very helpful and valuable and I appreciate it so much as I am still going through the learning process.

Thanks heaps guys in advance!

I see the fb is taking care of itself, tackled.

I list anything that will go as a letter as 'free' postage. Everything else has postage separate. You will still pay Paypal fees on the postage, but not eBay fees. What service/s are you using? If you're not already using it and you can utilise satchels, or if packed weight is over 500g, have a look at Click and Send. The satchels are considerably cheaper than standard Australia Post ones and the B1 box is way cheaper than a 3kg satchel. C&S also qualifies for Paypal seller protection, without any hassles or semantics.

As a buyer I accept items bought online have a postage charge above the item cost, provided all other things are equal it really doesn't matter as ebay gives the option to search for item with item+postage cheapest first.

Then with me comes location of the item because that tells me how long its going to take for it to arrive.

I will often pay a $ or two more to a Oz seller just for the speed of delivery.

Then comes feed back, its not such a huge factor as long as there is non saying item didn't arrive or slow postage.

Just saying here now and I know it doesn't apply to you, Sadly there has been a few HK sellers listing items as being in Oz and posting from HK, they get punished with a neg from me and 1 star, there is no excuse for misrepresenting the item location

On my BIN store items I include the cost of postage in the total price, most of my things post for $6.20 in an ebay branded satchel so I add $8 and that covers the cost + fees, of course you can't discount anything that is free postage so when buyers pay for more than one item together it more than makes up for it.

eBay just charges a fee for the item price. If you're accepting payment by PayPal, they charge the fee for postage. For casual sellers / non-store owners, the eBay fee is a standard 7.9% of the item price but for a Basic or Featured Store it's just 7%. If accepting payment by PayPal, the postage fee is a standard 2.4% + fixed fee of 30c.

It's probably cheaper for keep postage separate as the PP fee is a tad less overall. Sometimes offering free postage like digital*ghost suggested is a nice incentive for people to buy. This helps for things that can be sent as a large letter but can also work for parcel items too.

Good luck and have fun wetting a line! 🙂

If they fit in the B1 boxes I would definitely use those -

Width 220mm Depth 160mm Height 77mm

and costs $8.25 postage - click and send with tracking, what's not to like 🙂

a box provides more protection I reckon.
