Day of unreasonable requests

Been selling for a while with no issues.

Today started with a buyer demanding refund because the screen protector did not cover his entire screen. (Screen Protectors normally ignore the curved portion of the phones and are smaller sized than the phone display). Explaining thats how its manufactured was to no avail.

Then came along the next request demading express post delivery for a $7 product. Claims its advertised. Explained that its advertised as option and express delivery is not free. Got accused as false advertising

Whoo.. Some days are defnitely hard

Hmm. To be honest, I don't think it helps that you have the Express Post logo in the pictures of your items. Of course, an experienced eBayer would know better than to expect that Express is included automatically free of charge, but I can easily see why a novice buyer might get confused.

hi the protector thats 1 thing you are proberly right

but your postage is a very grey area you have some items listed with the express postage picture on it and some items with nothing on them but most say free postage go to your listings and what would you think [very grey why would you show express posting on the same picture as free postage he does have a point mmmmmmmm

Thought it could be seen in checkout that there is an option for express delivery for extra $6. But I get it could be a cause for confusion. Removed the pics

Hey joe, can you do us all a favour? Can you start using full stops at the end of your sentences? I've taken the liberty of putting full stops in the post I have quoted as a guide for you. Also, start each sentence with a capital letter

If you full stop key is broken on your computer can you start each new sentence on a new line for us? It would make it so much easier to read your posts, AND, you can avoid confusion about exactly what you are saying. It look like this

While I'm giving advice . . . . . . joe, did you know that you can "spell-check" your post before posting it? The spell checker is located in the place shown below. Just click that spell check button and incorrect spelling will be underlined in red as shown, so that you can correct the spelling as I have.

I beg to differ Joe. Some of your posts are indeed incomprehensible. No joke. Even punctuation would go a long way towards helping, and really, how hard is it to use the spelling checker before hitting 'Post' anyway?

Probably doesn't know what spell check is.......

Some of them are very unreadable. They remind me of how teenagers write. One big long sentence with atrocious spelling.

I can guarantee you are not as old as I am Joe....I am as old as Methuselah.

And I agree with the others.....if you cannot spell then at least use the tools given to you on your computer to check your spelling and grammar. Even those of us who can spell will hit the button to check that we have not mistyped anything.

To me, it is just good manners to make sure you can be understood if you want to discuss your ideas with others.

Totally agree GOOD SPELLING is a sign of an educated person and one who can spell can expect our respect and attention.

A person who cannot spell correctly shows a small part of their real person, sloppy, untidy, messy.

Sorry I find that offensive stampingspaws. I suffer with dyslexia and struggle with the written word. I also use tools to help, but at time that fails. I am educated and not sloppy,untidy or messy.

raffa, I agree with you. However, I do think that you might have misunderstood the motives of the posters (other than stamping) on this thread who have commented on joe's spelling

On another thread joe actually asked about a dictionary. Here's a screen grab of his post:

The purpose of my post that mentioned the spell checker was partly in response to joe asking where he could get a dictionary. The part of my post that asked joe to use full stops and capitals at the start of sentences was to try to help joe to better get his message meaning across. I have found it difficult to understand some of joe's posts and the reason is the lack of full stops and capitals.

Text that is grammatically flawed, incorrectly spelt and devoid of punctuation is problematic for people who understand correct/proper grammar, spelling and punctuation as the text can take on a totally different meaning than intended by the author of that text.

I'll give you an example and ask that you think about how you interpret the following sentence that might appear on these forums:

"I brought an item that does not work"

This use of the word "brought" is common on these boards when the correct word is "bought". The sentence "I brought an item that does not work" takes on a different meaning for me to the author who is complaining that the item they bought on eBay does not work. To me, the sentence means they took an item with them to their destination i.e. they brought it along with them.

Now, I am sensible enough to know what they meant, and many would say "but you know what they meant" . . . . . . BUT . . . . . . it is not what they wrote.

I could also show examples where posters use the word "of" instead of "have", which can also change the meaning of a sentence or post entirely.

No keyboard worriers here, just volunteers who want to help others.
