Due for system memory upgrade....

......Anyhow using freeware app System Explorer i have noticed consistent maximum system memory usage , with some user processes realising noticeable slowdowns

I know I can just put up with this situation but I think I will invest in additional ram memory as supported by my mainboard

Would this solution be cost justified by the majority of computer users experiencing slower performance or a matter of personal preference ?

I would try not running non-essential processes first.

How often do you turn your computer off? Despite the naysayers who say it isn't possible, I find that after a few days my computer tends to slow down. Rebooting seems to fix the issue, so that's what I do. I dunno if it is clogged RAM or not, but it works.

I have 16Gb or RAM, but I have no idea how that rates for capacity these days.

So you have Task Manager and System Explorer which basically does the same thing?

If you are lacking space then you only have two options which are either more Ram or another system with

greater capacity.

So cost effectiveness would make the Ram more suitable unless the system is more then 7 years old as then

an upgrade may be a more effective option due to superior speeds and greater capacity.

Have you cleared out unnecessary files,emptied the Recycle bin,cleared Cookies and Cache,removed unwanted

program's,defraged,put icons into folders,etc.

i would just rather add system memory than groval by manually unloading processes or even rebooting

These days 16GB of installed system memory would be considered respectable power user , however regardlesss of total installed memory a poorly maintained or buggy computer will be a misery

With 16Gb of system memory using computer for home office type tasks I would install a 4GB ram drive and configure the page file to run virtual memory off the ram memory space ( also saves ssd wear if using one ) along with the default page file on the disk drive

About 8 years ago a friends PC was taking 4 minutes plus to load and after the removal of old Emails,

redundant files,etc and then a defrag speed went down to 20 seconds for start up.

It took over 4 hours to get it to start running smoother.

He had 95% usage which went down to 65% usage just by removing clutter.

all good , 45% memory usage 1 browser open , , sloppy seating of the second module - oh well computer gets a 4GB upgrade anyhow. 30.7 Windows Experience Index ( Windows 7 ) not the fastest I have used but good enough for my usage

Just put it aside for 3 days as that's the longest the virus can survive on any surface and if a bit of moisture from

the spray got in the wrong spot you could possibly fry the whole system.

Sydney airport to Wollongong ( I think) to Sunshine to Bendigo to the Gannwarra

The virus would have timed out within the package , although has been onshipped already - quite quickly

Was 35 seconds as timed by Glary Utilities by Glarysoft (freeware) - mentioned this in case any viewers want to standardise results on theirs

I remember once disconnecting the signal cable from the ssd , consult bios setup, afterwards wondered why it would not boot , reconnected and found the boot times was significantly less, like half - i surmised that without any background processes running the onboard maintenance firmware was free to quickly do it's thing.

So I tried to repeat this - but did not work consistently , just down by about 15% then creeping back up ( 28 - 30 seconds)

( also can not say what effect this has if any on the ssd - i do not advocate this process, and also may only work on the model I was using at the time))

So one thing lead to another and I carefully checked boot-time processes and found my security was hogging resources for a few minutes in the backgound - which would be fine in a late release computer but not for mine

So I replaced that with a lower resource usage security ( which caught a few viruses by surprise - a common event ) and I removed a few unwanted apps etc

result was 16 - 24 second booting but i must have stirred up something destructive , possible zombie controls which defaulted to an unpleasant " ground hog day" event , every time reboot , restores to the same point using a temp profile ( which I had never added)

This maybe a glitch or nanny-state malware - but is totally disturbing , and no , running restore points did not help and i tried a popular registry fix as well.

so having saved all valued files to an external hdd , using my trusty Knoppix live operating system ( runs from ram memory)

I shall clean reinstall

such is computer ownership of the inept ! but 16 seconds to boot up with security etc is not to bad .

My newly acquired system memory modules , which have the exact model number hence difficult to source, left LA on the 29th March so should be delivered soon , these were bought on ebay but shipped via an onshipping service which uses a proxy overseas address to facilitate postal deliveries from that country in the event that the Seller does not post to Australia

Good enough to start the computer in about 10 seconds , after POST completed, or would be except my inept keying in of my password increases the time considerably

Am using Ubuntu operating system now on this desktop , this Ubuntu operating system meets my web browsing requirements .Is easy to install, useful for me bundled apps, quick to start , super quick to shut down , not bothered by parasites written for Windows , and the price is right : freeware

As for Windows , One of my laptops has a Windows 10 license attached to it , a pre-release free upgrade special ":customer evaluation or something, from years ago) which can not be transferred to another computer.(I did try) - I need Windows to run specialised apps and Office etc ,so my onboard-display-less laptop will be dusted off and 2 new ssd's purchased , as seems from consulting BIOS setup that this model supports RAID arrays - so i am curious as to whether it will or not . I have a multi-bay enclosure for the second ssd ( Use it for cloning laptop disk drives onto ssd's)

My cheap charlie plan thottles back from 56Mbps to a lowly 1.6Mbps after the monthly top up is exceeded , but i can stream youtube at 720p all day ( ma and pa's carrot planting tips etc) and even live shows most of the time at the rated 1.6Mbps - however for downloading apps and updates etc is another thing , and another reason why I am waiting for high speed to resume to install Windows onto the laptop

I can only wish for that sort of speed but our plan doesn't go over so it's the same all the time.

Downloading can be a bit slow to the point where the system stalls so not much happens there except for

the system and browser updates.

Is none to worry just you did not copy as quote but seemed to have jumped above the quote line and edited from there which looked like in passing that was part of my original text, i think the idea of the quote function is to display the original text which one's reply is noted below even if an edited version of the original

anyhow , I think Windows updates can disrupt streaming / user initiated downloading if your bandwidth is marginal - your resident security real-time scanning can add to the woes , anti-spyware , anti-virus , aggresive firewall, malware blockers etc and sometimes not compatiable with each other. Upload speed influences downloading ,so if to many parasites are reporting to home base at the same time another problem.

Home Intruder installed Zombie control is the worst , can only clean reinstall and change passwords beacuse the operating system thinks the spy app was user installed so security will not likely detect - same for user installed nannyware ie keyloggers etc
