Toshiba Satellite L850/0C9.

This is going to be my new laptop, unless anyone knows anything bad about it.

The only problem I have is they are offering an extra 4g of RAM, I thought that would break the warranty.

I checked the Toshiba website and the specs are pretty good.

It seems that one of the guys was able to upgrade for 8g without breaking the warranty.

If you go for an extra 4g, check if the W7 is a 64 bit version

Laptop manufacturers allow customers to open up the computer and add extra RAM without voiding the warranty. That's why retailers often upgrade the RAM themselves before selling to the customer.

Thanks Moonlight, must admit, that bit did worry me, always thought if you cracked the case you did your warranty.

Where exactly are you buying this laptop from? Some manufacturers will not honor the warranty if bought in auctions(or from auction sites like eBay).

If you buy on eBay, make sure it is from a registered business that is specifically in the business of selling new computers with good feedback.

I think you should be ok, but you might want to check with Toshiba in advance before buying though.

Yes I had heard that Moonlight. Bought it from Dick Smith, will buy the extended Toshiba Warranty, it is a ripper computer, only thing I don't like is when you pull the plug to use on battery the screen goes noticeably darker, don't think I can change that but will read up to see.

Hi I'd like to find if you are happy with the laptop. We have same model but had a lot of trouble and interested if you bought the Toshiba Satellite L850/0C9 is it still running ok?

Hi , if the Authorised supplier upgrades system memory capacity from stock item spec in shop as part of a negotiated sale I would suggest ensure upgrade module description is included as a separate item on the sales receipt and including module model number.

In my opinion regarding post sales memory upgrade by the owner , that being not defined as a modification or repair , while laptop is under warranty, is a Toshiba sanctioned owner upgrade as implied by the detailed procedural description in the user manual , , sect 4 - 29, however to ensure absolute peace of mind regarding continued warranty cover install only Toshiba prescribed memory modules.

re Windows 32bit / 64bit , if this model Toshiba laptop has 32bit Windows installed , executing a factory restore ( via the hidden partition stored on the hard disk drive) will option either 32bit or 64bit Windows , owner selectable

ps : don't forget to run a full oem Windows recovery disk set in case the hard disk drive fails or a future Windows operating system upgrade deletes the hidden recovery partition and you seek to restore to the native os version

pss : re: display brightness can be user calibrated for both battery and mains power running via power options in control panel

Win10 : power options : plans shown > change plan settings
