Is this MS update necessary/critical?

MS Net Framework 4 Client Profile for Win 7 x 64 bit system

KB982670

The last time I updated a Framework 4 Client proile the computer crashed and I had to set it

to restore. after about 2 hours of messing about.

Now the latest Updates want me to install the above, and I can't finn out whether

it's necessary - have had a good look on the internet and Windows site but

can't get what I need to know - which is can I leave it alone?.

I really don't want to risk crashing again.

running Win7 x 64bit.

Hello brighton,

If your comp is running without any probs and you are not getting any nuances, best to not change or update.

Then when something is not running properly and you update, it will be the ironed out version in most cases.

(Just quietly, I think a lot of comp products and updates are firms justifying their existence)

That's what I am referring to.

I have had win 7 for nearly 2 years and never updated. I find the updates cause probs as though certain virus seek those attempting to stay ahead.

Same with anti virus software. Now that I only have firewall up and nothing else, I don't get anymore probs.

I also don't access any pop ups or promotions or download content, that helps.

You might htink you have nothing nasty on your computer but how would you know if you have no antivirus software.

There are plenty of sites that will drop a bot on your computer and you wouldnt know if nothing to protect it,

A firewall wont stop a lot of stuff as you can download a zipped program and when you unzip it it can load a virus and you wouldnt know a thing about it.

Why do all experts say to have an antivirus program and what do you know that they dont.

I note you say you dont download anything which I find hard to believe.

You are right, it's easy to get a virus.

But I only open ebay, email, and usually google some things without going into them.

I don't download any updates anymore and re-format my comp with genuine windows once a year.

Since not using anti virus, I have not had any problems as I did while having Norton or AVG.

Also win 7 has a small protection program built in, maybe that helps.

I had nothing but trouble with Norton. Now I have Avast and it's good. I also

have Malawarebytes and Spybot and Windows Defender.

The only time I've had a major problem (crash) was with the Windows Updates.

Don't listen to that **bleep**wit telling you not to update. Keep your system up to date at all times.

Further, if a piece of software stops working because you "updated", that's a good thing.

Idiots who think they know better than the people who create the operating system they are using should be ignored.

Hi , i agree with benson*hall , in that Windows updates are fully supported by the appropriate Windows OS as such should update successfully and should be installed

If there is an update installation issue this should be repaired regardless of whether the Windows application or update is currently required as this is indicative of an undesirable windows system file error, application incompatibility, 3rd party firewall config issue, malware or possibly incorrect Windows activation / non validated or licensing questions

Hi benson, no it wasn't a piece of software, but the whole computer crashed. It only booted up to a

black screen with some instructions then it took me ages to get past it. When I was eventually able to get into Sys Restore

that fixed it but then I donwloaded that programme from windows the same one I think rogespeed mentions, fixit,

and ran that and after a long time all seemed well and still does.

I do always download the Win Updates though , in fact all updates.
