Wow! So glad I read this post. I bought the same printer about 4weeks ago, and couldn't get up the courage to do more than open the box and read the booklet. I just didn't think I could set it up myself, so I've been waiting for some Good Samaritan to come along. Ill have a go now. Thank you.

How do wireless printers work?

I'm thinking of buying a wireless printer, mainly as I'm sick of all the wires hanging down from my desk. I figure that if I can remove one or two wires that will be a help.

But how do wireless printers work?

I'm assuming that the printer gets plugged into the power socket in the usual way, but instead of a wire connecting the printer to the comp, you'd have a receiver. So this would be the same idea as you have for the wireless keyboard and mouse

If this is the case, my question would be how far from the receiver should the printer be? Because of space constraints, my printer is on a different desk to the comp and the distance between them is about 1.5 metres. is this too far?

Just to add a note about distance. My printer is wireless running on the house wi-fi system. The signal travels to and from a router that is 15 meters away. No problems.

Best wishes

Thanks all, I bought myself an HP Photosmart 5520 at Officeworks.

Couldn't believe how easy it was to install, after the guy at Officeworks explained to me how to do it

Works perfectly, great to have one less wire to contend with!
