When I was in the army in 1977 (!) we used to have similar items when out camping for the weekend, plus 'hayboxes', insulated boxes for larger quantities of food. There would be three individual cannisters inside, as not_an_eloi has said. They were used to transport the hot food but not keep it hot for any great length of time. Just cook it, put it in the cases, transport it out and eat it.

it was so bloody freezing we would have eaten anything hot, if I recall correctly. 😉

Hi guys,

Would anyone have any idea of what this is and what it could possibly be worth?

I'm thinking it's like an old urn/thermos but I'd like clarification if possible. It is about 38cm high and weighs about 4.5kg.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

yes that what it is - you can see more of the label on this one. This was originally listed on South African site for approx $30 but did not sell. Check completed listings on eBay Oz for vintage thermos - it would I think have a limited market but is the sort of thing people who have vintage caravans might like as an accessory. My guess would be $15-19.
