I absolutely treasure the friendships / relationships I have established here over the years.... :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x

and I would like to THANK YOU ALL for all your insights, information & education plus your sympathies and well wishes too in my own & my OH's personal ' not so very good times '.

BUT - Now I am about to start on a new & totally foreign journey ...... you might have read posts from me saying that I was "slightly stressed at the moment" ????????????

A week ago I received a letter ......... from the Queensland Government via Department of Main Roads............

"The Department of Transport & Main Roads and Logan City Council are undertaking a joint investigation to identify a viable corridor for a future motorway known as the Park Ridge Connector. To date, a refined area of interest has been identified within which a future motorway could be constructed on a number of possible alignments.....

YADA YADA YADA

..... your property falls within this refined area of interest and may be impacted by a future alignment............. "

By all accounts ..... from the very first notification that I have been provided with to date so far ( pending the FIRST of the now notified 5 "planned" community meetings starting from next Wednesday evening ~~~ ostensibly for further info & sighting of THE *ahem-cough* ACTUAL PLAN )........... is that MY home is going to be SMACK-BANG in the middle of this "refined" area and will be BULL-DOZED for a 6-LANE 100km FREEWAY ......

SOOOOOOOOOO ~~~~~~~~ IF the plan gets the go ahead we can say SAYONARA to everything we have developed / planned for / worked towards in retirement.

Suffice to say at present- WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT HAPPY JAN ?? !!! X-(

Hynes, that is SOOO bad. I hope you can fight them and beat them. Haven't they got enough freeways around your area as it is???? I'm sure that is not what you need right now so I'll be thinking of you even if you aren't here.

What a shock! I would expect that they would have to compensate you and that is would be moneys for now and the future....thats to say if you cant stop it. Would it be worth finding out the process and finding a solicitor who has an area around public acquisition of private land. Meanwhile gather as much information as you can and have a list of questions before you go into the meeting. Take notes and if you cant take a portable Dictaphone to record what is said. Keep every document even in the slightest relation to it. Get a valuation of your property even if it is a rough estimate by a real estate agent at this time. Every phone call , consersation with someone official make contemporaneous notes ( buy a big book so its a running diary) And in those notes write date time who you spoke to what it was about and the outcome. Thats all I can think of ATM.

Hynes that is absolutely rotten news. Hopefully they will find an alternate route, maybe you could find a rare species of something growing or living on your land or the neighbours and then they won't be able to resume it.

That is so dreadful!
I can only agree with your advice so far.
Start writing everything down so you keep track of what's what. Stress can alter your perceptions and muddle you up on things, so be prepared.

get all your relevant phone numbers sorted
Get on to your state and federal members NOW and start badgering them.

ANY sort of heritage value in the area?
ANY unique features at all?

MAke sure you have a written valuation of everything!

Sorry to hear that Hynes, flight or fight, I fancy Fight.
Get all child care centres involved if theyre in that Zone area, like ABC learning schools who were in the news in Sydney sometime ago regarding relocating children somewhere else.
The road may not be built till whats is it 2030. but they have to build it yet and relocate everyone.. So make it as bloody difficult as you and your neighbours, committees can and in the process tip of the media..

Has there been previous notice that you're in a road corridor from the state roads association?

We have an area near us that has been tagged as the future F6 freeway for decades. It's well known that one day it may be a freeway. I would assume the state authority up there have a similar thing to allocate 'road corridors' and should be laid down by council.

Sorry to scare you missllinda :^O

I had been a little bit ill though - last week I thought it was appendicitis 😮 and if the pain had persisted OH was under instruction to dial 000. Came good after a HEX from Wilma the Witch :-x.

Went to GP - he "thinks" I have had a diverticulitis attack and am now on elephant-pills pending 2nd lot of blood test results. 1st lot weren't nice, with exception that cholesterol was down lower than it's been in over a year !

Will be back in a day or so with an UPDATE on my original topic. Got so many notes, names, maps, printouts to sort through. More meetings with neighbours this week. More community input meetings too. Lots happening. I have taken 2 weeks off from work.

UPDATE

It has now been some 18 days since the “end of the world” as we knew it.

In that time I have googled my fingers off for more info seeing as how we weren‘t given much…. hmmm amazing what one can find using lateral thinking & patience in the quiet of late nights !!

I like to keep some things shhh top secret too - just like the Qld Govt, Dept of Transport & Main Roads & Logan Council do, so I won’t go into details on any of that, suffice to say it makes interesting reading.

We have now been afforded the courtesy of seeing satellite maps with overlay plans & have a clearer impression of the “proposal” as a whole & YEP we are going to suffer in one way or another IF this freeway gets the go ahead.

This part of the “consultation process” CLOSES on Nov 18.… geeeeeee they don‘t give much time do they??

We have attended 2 “public consultation” meetings so far & both have been horribly noisy in venues that are acoustically bad, making it hard to hear what is being said. Understandably there has been much anger & angst and it has been difficult to hear or even get clear answers.

Have swapped email addresses with several others at these meetings and groups are being formed. One of the local papers will run a story this week. Had a snicker when the photographer told us to put our angry faces on???......HA !! Don’t need to make believe for that matey !!

Wednesday we have booked a more individualised meeting & discussion with members of the “project team” for the above 3 powers-that-be and we were told that there will also be someone in attendance to discuss how “valuations” are done and what they will pay for and when.

UPDATE #2

Had the Wednesday meeting..... with the Dept of Transport & Main Roads Project Manager (Malcolm Imrie) and two young blokes from their Property Services section. hmmmm Mr Imrie was very informative and ..... dare I say it ..... even 😮 understanding?? But I take it that it's just a job to him. He's had a few similar jobs according to Google.

His two "lackies" were quite lacking in appreciation of our situation and the younger one seemed to be just a Trainee/Observer because he NEVER once uttered one word during the entire time we were there (some 2 hours) looking at maps and demonstrably discussing alternatives, our suggestions and recompense. Notes were taken by them too - hmmmm don't know if anything I said will be taken into consideration.

Have another "public consultation" meeting to attend with same / different members of the 'project team' ..... who knows until we get there???? Maybe someone will 'slip up' on their spiel ????

Next Tuesday night there is a RESIDENTS ONLY MEETING ..... 7pm at Park Ridge Baptist Church Main Hall at 3922 Mt Lindesay Highway, Park Ridge Q.

In the meantime, if anyone who knows anyone (either sellers or buyers) in the locale could you PLEASE let them know about this meeting ....Park Ridge, Browns Plains, Logan Reserve, Crestmead, Chambers Flat, Munruben, Jimboomba, Maclean, Greenbank, Logan areas ???

Yeah stress can make life difficult. Will be talking with my GP about that when I see him tomorrow as he has called me in to discuss my latest blood test results.
