ebay for $300 if this purchase is incorrect press 1 to speak to

an ebay operative.

Once again, not the latest, not new

There are over 30 threads on the same thing already on here

Thing is, by people saying this is something new when it is far from it over and over, nobody is going to pay any attention to a yet to be heard of scam which REALLY is new because they will just assume it is *this* one, yet again

I sure as heck you did not press 1 like many people have done

And this same scam also pretends to be from many other places, not just an 'eBay' scammer

No I have the nouse to sniff out and avoid a scam.

Thought I would post it here in case others like me have not

heard of this particular EBAY scam.

I actually don't get them - DD does - as she uses her mobile all the time.

When asked for a number I give the landline - bought a new Challenger - it asks for the person calling to identify themselves - the scam just hang up.

You are able to press 1 for a single received call if the person has identified themselves - 2 for always accepting calls from certain numbers.

Quite a good idea.

We've just received a letter from the Australian Bureau Of Statistics telling us our household has been selected for a Wellbeing And Lifestyle Survey. Our names do not appear in the address on the envelope, just an "Obligation ID". And, apparently, due to the Covid pandemic the survey has to be done online. There is a step by step guide to accessing the appropriate website etc.

To be honest, I think it probably is genuine, but I am seriously thinking of ignoring it, and when they chase us up saying we assumed it was just another scam, phishing for our personal details.

It is not an ebay scam, it is a scammer purporting to be ebay. There is a very big difference.

Most victims of scams, believe they are smart enough to never fall victim to one, but of course they do and the scammers rely

on the victims being to vain to report they have been conned. If a scam is really good, you may not even know you have been

conned until much much later.

Everyday the my work mobile gets calls from 'Telstra" with a recorded message to press 1.

I don't pick up calls from a private number.

Just a nuisance when working and going over to the desk every time for nothing.

Text here today with a link included. Hello (first name). Transfer all your money we are about to close your account. Obviously deleted and blocked number. That is the strangest I have had. As expected when I checked Reverse Phone Numbers it is 100% SCAM

One rule I go by is never answer private numbers or numbers I don't know.

I have a leave message service so if it's important then they'll leave a message.

I've also noticed over time the scam calls seem to only ring 3 times and then hang up so once the call ends I go straight to block this number and block it.

Mind you I have 100s of blocked numbers on my phone, some may of been important but I'll never know.

Third one this fortnight but this time I pressed 1 and when a person came on the line gave them a gob full using words that would make a wharfie blush, they hung up on me, funny that. Hopefully they will have taken my phone number off their list but then again...

Nope

All pressing 1 has done is confirmed you are a real phone number and the person on the other end will play along with pressing 1 (the scammers could'nt care less what the person says when they do so) and it will be circulated to all their scammer mates as well

I hope this was not a smart phone you used to press 1

(Have a read through the many posts on the forum of what has resulted when other people went right on a head and 'pressed 1')

It will have you swearing at yourself

Same thing happened to me today. Recorded message said an amount will be debited from my card and call them.
i called the scammer and he said “I purchased a gift card last night”.
and if I want to cancel the order I need to download an application called TEAMVIEWER from play store and that’s when it clicked that they were trying to gain access to my phone. I hang up and told them that I’ll call my bank and report a fraudulent transaction.
