Need to contact buyer

9 moths ago I sold a guitar. The buyer paid and I got the money. But now after all this time the buyer wants to pick it up. (originally he didn't know if he'd pick it up or receive by post). I tried repeatedly to get in touch with him so that I could give him my address or phone number or get his address for postage but he didn't reply. Why won't ebay let us communicate? And I've spent hours going 'round in circles trying to get ebay help... But it's impossible. What do I do now? The buyer paid. Ebay got their nice big cut, I got paid, but the buyer can't get the guitar!

Not sure what the problem is - the buyer has obviously contacted you regarding pickup.

Why can you not reply with an address etc.

I have it (I'm the seller). Poor buyer has paid, but I can't get the guitar to him.

Yes, because transaction is too old.....do you not have buyer's phone number/email in original transaction?

No. no phone numbers exchanged originally. I think the buyer must have had some medical (or similar) episode, which might explain his non communication. Original transaction was during October 2023.

He has now asked to pick up, but I can't give him my contact details because ebay messaging won't send the message.

you can dodgy up your phone number in some weird way. using numbers digits and codes. A bit dodgy but it does work. Use ASCII code or pigpen. But I didnt suggest that.

It wont let you send because it now thinks you are trying to deal outside of Ebay

when you contacted eBay, did you ask to speak to a supervisor?

eBay only allow access to sales for 90 days.

All I can suggest is to set up a listing for something, let the buyer know the item number, which you can do through eBay messaging, get them to 'buy' it, organise pick up of the guitar as you will now have their contact details, then cancel using 'buyer requested' which will get your fees back.

Win-win.

Have you tried using - well - code - you are not outside eBay's policies - the funds have been recieved - the fees have been taken - all you are trying to do - is deliver.

Have you tried - say your mobile is - 0458 678 549 - adding numbers say 3 - which is not included in your mobile - ie - ignore the 3's.

Thought of that... spelled out the numbers, but still no-go. I could code it somehow but the buyer is not at all 'wised-up'. He'd be totally confused. I understand that ebay might 'think' I'm trying to deal outside. But what's it got to do with them? I have paid ebay, they've got their money, (a nice wad) how come they still need to restrict us!! I'm just trying to do the right thing here.

I spent a couple of hours TRYING to contact ebay. Best I could do was a chat line which didn't help at all.

If only I could get a phone number to explain to a human being! A Supervisor would be great. But all the options in the help pages just sed you 'round in circles.

Is the buyer also a seller? That way you can message them via one of their listings....

No he's not a seller. He's a bit naive I fear. I guess the one best option would be to sell another item -for pickup only, then let him know so he can buy it, and give him the pickup contact details for that ad... which he can buy, then reimburse me. Trouble is, he lives interstate and I don't know when he's coming down here. I guess if I put BIN he can buy it immediately. Hopefully before he comes. Man what a drama!

Yes. He's genuine, he's paid. The guitar is HIS now, not mine.

Click on the nearest problem and chat to a SUPERVISOR....if you can't contact buyer, you need eBay to open up your messages......good luck!
