Security concern - update #2

OK I rang eBay (they are open 7 days) and we were able to confirm username "chjecje.r5qsvyx" is not malicious, just a guest account I must have created accidentally 3 days ago. Apparently these are meant to be 1 time only accounts, but somehow it managed to stay alive over 3 days, even though I shutdown every night.

To complicate things a little, it looks like a moderator of this forum decided to delete my previous post "Security concern -- UPDATE -- VERY SERIOUS". Perhaps they thought it was duplicate, but it wasn't, and there were many helpful comments there. Thanks everyone for your help = problem resolved.

Exactly what I said on the other threads.

A guest account does not just disappear when you shut down your computer.

If you have more than one account you can have problems as your computer will remember both of them unless you log out of one or both before posting here.

Well I hope that the issue has been resolved for you because one of your posts on the other thread you said that you were sure that you didn't do any of the things that you are now saying that you did.

I'm not having a go at you but all of this just doesn't seem right because you just can't forget that you purchased as a guest 2 days ago and then not remember it?

I just didn't even realise I had purchased as a guest until an hour ago.I assumed the purchase was done under ChrisJ7903. I even emailed the vendor this morning asking why the purchase wasn't appearing in MyeBay Summary.

Also I wasn't familiar with format of guest account names. To my eyes, after several failed logins and weird waning messages from eBay, it looked suspicious. It's easy to say it's obvious in retrospect, and to be brutally frank - it is obvious now. But the whole sequence I experienced was quite prolonged and very odd. So I thought I'd do the reponsible thing and report it here ...

But now I know ...

Seems the mods binned it altogether rather than 'merging' the two like they have usually done lately

look at the thread titles on the posts of that other thread and it does look like the two threads may have been merged. Maybe the mods are getting better at merging threads and not repeating the opening posts of both!

posts #1 and #2 got merged by mods, but under the guest username, even though I posted #2 under true username chrisJ7903

post #3 (this thread) is the only one under my true username (chrisJ7903) plus I can't log into guest username (not that I want to)

You will be able to log into the guest account when you have logged out of this account.

If you want access to both at the same time open another browser.

No need really, plus I tried to log into that guest while talking to eBay and it had expired.

Anyway I think we've done this to death 🙂 and my issue has been resolved

For the record the "Accepted Solution" solution to this issue would be message #16 posted by crow333crow in the other thread started under guest username chjecje.r5qsvyx "Security concern -- UPDATE -- VERY SERIOUS", where he (she? 🙂 states:

"My guess is that Chris has purchased an item as a guest and that's why that username has come up and then he has signed in and now both usernames are appearing and are both online."

(the guest username is no longer accessible, so I can't login there to mark that message as accepted)

For the mods: Please note this whole discussion was greatly complicated by a rushed decision to merge the two threads. I would recommend a basic rule: two threads under dfferent usernames should never be merged, even if they look very similar.
