But the auction does not end until the time ticks over to the next second.

In this case the bidder was lucky.....the bid was accepted before the time ticked over. A fraction of a second later and he would have missed out.

If you won the auction why are you so worried about it?

Some eBayers use a sniping program which will automatically bid in the last second or so if you are not at your computer.

But it depends on the internet speed whether a bid at the same time of auction end will go through or not.

If the bid was accepted then the auction had not ended.

I usually do a snipe bid 5 seconds before the end but if the internet is slow it can show as 1 second before the end or even the exact end time. I have even missed out if the internet is slow.

greetings

thx for your input

if an auction has ended, i dont understand how can a bid be accepted if the auction is ended.

i accept if the final bid was 18:57:05 - yes i can see how that is valid as the auction has not ended, but a bid at 18:57:06 occurs when the auction has ended and if an auction has ended how can a bid be lodged and accepted.

this is an issue about when an auction has ended and when it is open for bidding.

i am not having a go at sniping, as that is accepted as a legitimate method: this is all about the time when something occurred

thx all

it seems that the majorty of people are happy with ebay showing that an auction has finished at a specific time (ie 18:57:06) and the fact that ebay will show that it accepted a bid at the same time (18:57:06), despite the ebay communicating that the auction has ended.

if thats how it works so be it, i just found this very strange.

using the analogy of the auctineers gavel hitting the table at eg 18:57:06 signifying the end of bidding on that item, i find it stange that the auctioneer would then accept a bid a the same time ie18:57:06 ie when the gavel has hit the table.

imho when the gavel hits the table the auction has ended and any bids made simultaneously are not valid.

this is definitely not my experience in the real world, but it seems the rules ( ie the rules as communicated by ebay and information presented in relation to bidding by ebay) in ebay are unique to themselves and the information provided in the bidding history is insufficent to provided an informed understanding of what actually has taken place,

have a great day everyone

i understand computers work in nano seconds, my concern is transparency.

it wouldnt be too difficult to show exactly what is happening time wise re auctions.

call me an independent thinker, but i dont just accept that businesses always behave ethically. theres too many cases to the contrary.

in fact businesses are in the business of making money and not making friends.

If someone places a bid at 18:57:0671562, then it will be accepted as the auction was a millisecond from ending, therefore, still active. Look at it as the auctioneer lifting the gavel, and as they start to drop it towards the table, someone bids in that millisecond before it hits the table.

I'm not sure why you are worried when you won the auction.
