I have tried several times to "chat" but i find that when i type in my story, the send button will not work.

Have you waited for an agent to com online, or are you just starting a session and typing straight away?

Yeah, usually you click on and when an agent is available they will open with Hi My name is xxxxx etc.

They can get busy, so you just need to be patient. I also think they have a 'approx wait time' when you first go in

This is correct however when it came time for me to type my message, the send button was 'shaded'.
