The Cat From Hell

I'm reading a Stephen King short stories at the moment for bedtime.

Started "The Cat From Hell" last night.

It starts off with an old guy who grew rich in Pharmaceuticals. His laboratory killed about 15.000 cats with their lab experiments. The old guy thinks that's fair enough because his vaccines have save millions of humans.

Suddenly this cat appears at his mansion. It's face is half black and half white. The old guy's sister falls in love with it. The cat causes her to fall down the stairs and break her neck.

Suddenly household staff begin dying in accidents where the cat is involved.

They can't get rid of the cat.

The old guy hires a hitman to get rid of the cat. The hitman takes a liking to the cat....

Then I got sleepy, turned off the light and went to sleep.

when I was in my early 20's, I knew a couiple of girls who used to get into the labs ( I think it was at Melb Uni) & release all the cats :-x

Waiting patiently for the second instalment....

Sometimes I feel my cats are plotting to kill me. They nearly tripped me over so many times by running through my legs or in front of my foot. Actually They made me fell over a couple of times. Lucky we don't have any stairs in our house. I can be dead by now if we had stairs.

And there is always a cat watching me.... if it's not two or three cats...

I love Stephen King.... just an item of trivia apparently when he was at college his english master told him to give up all ideas of writing as he was no good.

That english teacher will be kicking himself. Bit like the guy who said the Beatles would never get off the ground or the one who said women would never have the strength to drive a motor car 😄

Ok well the story didn't move much last night, just fleshed out the characters and the story a bit more.

There's 4 people living in this old guys' mansion, his 74 yo sister, a maid, and a general houseman who also does the cooking and serves the sherry (I liked that bit lol)

One day this cat turns up at the house all skinny and matted fur. The old guy instructs the houseman to throw stones and sticks at it, but the cat keeps coming back.

Then they put cat food out with strong poison in it, the old guy, being in pharmaceuticals, knows what will be most effective. The cat ignores it.

Then the sister sees the cat, picks it up, brings it in the house and treats it like a baby.

Not long after, she is found at the bottom of the staircase with her teacup and saucer in pieces all scattered around her, her arm and hip broken, and her neck shattered like glass.

Now the hitman is sitting on the lounge, stroking the cat which has jumped into his lap and is purring loudly. He is negotiating terms with the old guy to get rid of the cat.

Then my eyelids started drooping and I rurned the light off.

Doesn't look good for the hitman...

Really icy you just have to stay awake a bit longer 😉

My guess is that the old nasty guy who killed all those cats is going to end up as a mouse and the cat will eat him. :^O

Ok did a bit more reading at the RTA while I was waiting my turn to renew my licence.

The hitman asks the old guy why they didn't they get rid of the cat after it tripped the sister (Amanda) down the stairs.

The old guy (Drogan) says "because Carolyn threatened to leave". Carolyn was Amanda's best friend and had lived with the brother and sister for many years. She suffered from emphysemia. The hitman suspects she and the old guy were once lovers.

Carolyn was very spiritual and said Amanda's spirit had entered the cat.

They found Carolyn dead in her room with the cat sitting on her chest a few months later. The old guy says the cat stole Carolyns breath while she was sleeping.

The hitman stops stroking the cat. "So why didn't you just take it to the vet and have it put down?"...

Then my number was called and I had to stop reading...

Morning all Catties 🙂

Well I'm about to head out but I'll just update the story so far:

The hitman asks the old guy why didn't they just take the cat to a vet and have it put down.

The old guy shows the hitman a basket, like one of those picnic hampers with a hinged lid.

He'd given it to the houseman to put the cat in and take it to the vet to do just that.

The houseman takes off in the car with the basket strapped into the passenger seat.

Hours later, the old guy is watching the news and sees his houseman's car had smashed into a concrete retaining wall.

The houseman's dead body is being taken out of the car.

His face is scratched to ribbons.

There is no sign of the cat...

omg Syrups! I've never even seen that one around. I must get that on my kindle!

Ok well the story so far:

About a week after the houseman's (Gage) death, on the very day of his funeral in fact, the cat turns up back at the house.

The old guy by this time is seriously scared of it and instructs the maid to feed it. The maid doesn't like it either, she says it's two-tone black and white face is a curse, but she feeds it anyway. She's too scared not to.

The old guy sleeps in his locked bedroom at night, he's scared of waking up with the cat sitting on his chest.

The hitman decides to take on the job. Money changes hands, the deal is done.

He drives off on the lonely country road, the cat in a double-strength shopping bag tied at the top with twine on the passenger seat beside him. The night is peaceful, there's a full moon.

The motor of his expensive car is purring like a contented cat.

The comparison amuses him...

Unfortunate for my cats they don't have claws sharp enough to open a can of cat food. They have to rely on me. So I think I'm safe.

My daughter came here and read the story with me yesterday. And she said she wants to read the book.

So I told her check if her father got the book or not. My husband have a lot of Stephen King books. I knew he has some books of short stories.

She found one containing "The cat from hell". She disappeared in her bedroom for long time. When she came out she told me "I won't tell you what happens. You have to find out in your forum."

So icy you have to tell me what happened!!!

LOL that was good of your daughter not to "let the cat out of the bag" and tell you the ending, Syrups 😄

Ok well I finished the story over the weekend:

The hitman is driving along thinking how he's going to do the job. He has sympathy for the cat and silently promises to make it quick and painless and give it a decent burial

Suddenly the cat walks across the dashboard. A quick look at the shopping bag beside shows a huge hole clawed out of the side of it.

He tries to shoo the cat away. It bats at him playfully at first, then jumps on his face, digging it's claws in behind his ears to hold on. The pain is excruciating.

The car swerves of the road and rolls into the ditch flipping itself over a cpl times.

When he wakes up he is sitting upright, the motor block has come through the wall and has pinned his legs. He has no feeling below his neck, but after a few minutes he feels sensation returning and plans to shoot the cat as soon as he can reach for his gun.

He warns the cat: "better get out the window cat or all your nine lives will be used up in one go"

As if it understood him, the cat leaps into his lap and starts clawing at his groin. The hitman has never experienced such pain and opens his mouth wide in a huge scream.

The cat suddenly turns, flattens it's ears and head and rams itelf into the hitmans mouth. He can feel it cartwheeling its claws on his tongue to push itself further and further down his throat.

As his bile rises he chokes...

Ok I'm back...

At dawn the next day a farmer checking his fences comes across the wreck.

Inside he finds the body of the hitman staring at the sunrise with dead eyes.

With horror he notices a weird rippling of the corpses chest. With a ghastly ripping and tearing sound the cat claws it's way out of the dead hitmans chest, all covered in blood and gore. As the farmer recoils, it jumps out of the open window and disappears into the long grass.

Later, during the police interview he comments that the cat seemed to be in a hurry.

As if it had unfinished business...

The End.

Oh no! He didn't let us know how the old guy gets done!?

I don't think the hitman didn't deserve the way he was killed. It's horrible! Bad kitty.
