@russki1958,

Can you give a little more detail? From what you've posted, I can only make guesses about what might be occurring.

However, just briefly running over two of the possibilities...

Never ever EVER sign in to any site - eBay or otherwise - from a link in an email. If you've received an email saying "We can't tell if these are your items", purporting to be from eBay, you have very possibly received a spam email. If you click onto the link in that email, you may have downloaded a keylogger or other malicious software. If you tried to log in from that link, you would have given your login information to whoever sent the email. Your account would in that case have been hijacked.

If you're talking about trying to log in to eBay (from a new browser window or new browser tab, and you've typed in the URL) and there is some sort of technical error, then you can try clearing your cache, history, cookies, etc. If you're reluctant to lose your internet history, clearing the cache may be all that's needed. Or... try a hard refresh in the tab/window where you are trying to load the site. (A hard refresh forces the locally stored cache of that particular site in your browser to be shooed away, so that the page/site itself will reload properly.

If you've clicked onto an email link, you should assume your computer is compromised. Running your A/V may fix the problem, but you'd be best off getting a computer technician to check your computer thoroughly. In the meantime, you should not try to log in to any site related to your personal or financial information. Assume that all of your passwords have been taken. Immediately change the passwords to sensitive sites, using another device.

Then contact eBay immediately for help with your potentially hacked account.

It seems that eBay are available by phone currently, in spite of COVID-19 restrictions, when it comes to account security. Use this link and click onto Have us call you.

Relevant eBay help pages

<A title="Scammers may impersonate well-known companies via email, phone or text message, in the hope that recipients will provide confidential information (including passwords or bank or credit card details) and/or download malicious software.
