Question Re: Misleading Descriptions in Buying on eBay

I agree but that's also the point, he's stated excellent condition to draw attention and hopefully to sell it at the same price as the other phones in good condition but you have to read the fine print to find out it's not which makes it misleading. I see what your saying but I still think it's a bit scummy

Misleading Descriptions

I tried to report this but couldn't find the right subcatagories. It's listed as excellent condition! but then you read the description and it has a dead pixel line that goes all the way down the phone. I thought it was just part of the case or something but then you read the description and no it actually does have a big line down the phone. Can that really be considered excellent condition?

While it may not be excellent condition in the true sense, anyone who looks at the photos and reads the description will know about the fault.

So on a scale of 1 - 10 (1 being Poor & 10 being Perfect) where does the subjective term excellent sit.

In the eye of the seller it is in exellent condition even with the faults listed and pictured. While the heading may state excellent condition, it is actually being sold in Condition: Used and the seller has disclosed the faults as listed and pictured.

No one thinks this is even slightly scummy? Using the term excellent condition to draw attention but they have to read the fine print to work out the main part of the phone is damaged?

The comments so far all say it was mentioned in the description and shown in the photos

Which fine print do you mean?

Any buyer who buys a phone off eBay based on heading alone and chooses not to read the description nor look at the photos clearly cannot care too much about what they are buying

And if they do do what they are suppose to do and read the description, they are well aware what they are buying before buying it

On the Scummy Scale of 1-10 it is about a 1. Save your indignation until you have bought as many items as I have and you have really had experience of scummy listings.
If the listing did not have full disclosure of the fault then you would have more reason to complain. You do not have to buy when you know the fault.

It might be scummy, but you have expended a lot of time and outrage on something, unless you bought it, that really doesn't affect you.

The advice is and will always be - don't buy phones online. Certainly not secondhand ones. Or even 'new' ones at less than retail. Go to a real shop, or their site, and buy there. That way you get a real phone, an enforceable warranty and peace of mind.
