Now, if I sell a tracked item and it gets lost.

Does that mean it's my problem and have to pay for the lost item.

Via ebay, yes! as the seller you are responsible for the refund, unless you qualify for seller protection.

As the sender you may be entitled to claim via the carrier you used.

Yes, you as the seller, are required to refund the buyer. Then you put in a request for a refund with Australia Post. See https://auspost.com.au/receiving/delayed-lost-or-damaged-items/compensation

Selling online? It's the same everywhere.

How many tracked parcels have you had go missing?

Are you overthinking things? I've sent in excess of 4000 parcels in 16 years and only ever had 2 go astray.
