It could come in handy for the Ebay sellers and buyers who read and comment on these boards.

eBay support staff generally read from a script and you're usually receive the best advice here on the forum from other experienced members.

But if you want to contact eBay in working hours, go to eBay Help at the top or the bottom of the page and when you get to the automated assistant, ask to speak to an agent or supervisor.

Op, you appear to think eBay is a regular company that falls under regular conditions.

eBay is an electronic platform run on a trust basis for its members.
eBay only facilitates a form of communication between sellers and buyers.
eBay doesn’t sell anything.

Secondly, eBay doesn’t have an office in Australia. Only a call centre that is located overseas with responders mostly giving answers from a script.

Now perhaps eBay hasn’t been clear on how this platform works but it is all there in the information given upon joining as an eBay member.
And I trust, most members haven’t taken the time to read and learn the ‘instruction booklet’ before selling or buying on eBay.

My advice is to only purchase from Brick and Mortar stores knowing there is a form of protection and don’t consider online purchasing as having the same level of consumer protection.
Caveat emptor.

Sorry kopes, I don't agree that eBay's just an online electronic platform any more.

As long as eBay holds money, distributes managed payments, eBay labels, international shipping, steps into disputes, money back guarantee etc etc, I believe it's MUCH more than just an online platform these days.

Casey, you make a good point. However the contractual bases upon joining still leaves the member responsible for their account with certain tools available.

The site mostly remains an internet site for buyers and sellers to meet.

I forgot to mention.... What about all the interest eBay makes on the money they hold ?

Plus they have all sellers' verification details and bank account numbers.

If that's not involvement, I don't know what is.

Unlike the real online 'buyers meet sellers' sites, like Marketplace and Gumtree, which is pretty much like eBay was many years ago.

There is no phone number. There has not been one since Covid. You can use eBay help at the top of any page and type speak to an agent in the chatbot or you can open your own thread and ask other members what it is you need help with
