Question Re: AusPost Don't Scan Tracked Envelopes in Packaging & Shipping

We have a couple different people doing the post runs, we also have two runs a day. We’ve had multiple issues with our drivers and the PO. We use multiple PO’s for this reason and we still have the same issue. Not to mention, standing at the post office waiting to be served for half hour is incredibly time consuming.. it would be good if eBay took on an Amazon FBA model.. Would save a lot of hassles. We have never had an issue with Amazon.

AusPost Don't Scan Tracked Envelopes

This has happened quite a lot. When I hand my packages over the counter, AusPost will scan the parcels but consider the tracked envelopes "not priority" and generally don't scan them. Two situations have occured;

1. The post office scanned it (as I'm friends with the owners) but when it's picked up to be taken to depot, the driver doesn't scan them. Then item is left on "We've got it" until it is delivered.

2. I (regrettably) didn't check my lodgement receipt at another post office that I only use on a Saturday morning as my usual place is closed, the woman behind the counter scanned the parcels I lodged but not the tracked envelopes. She handed me a lodgment receipt but I didn't check it. I see the notifications come up for the parcels, but not the tracked envelope. I check the tracking history and it still says "pending".

Lessons for all sellers on here. Check your lodgement receipts. At least if they've scanned it at the post office, then you've done your part. I have 0-1 day shipping and I think this might affect my sellers account negatively. I'll be contacting eBay tomorrow to see what the situation is.

Has anyone else been in this situation before and how did it pan out?

Always. I use several POs and I ensure they all scan all trackable items.

I don't even look at the receipt. I watch what the scanner scans.

Have never had a problem with tracked envelopes, always scanned and always get the stamped tear off lodgement portion from the rear as receipt and quite often also get a printed lodgement receipt as well.

Any problems with ebay, the tear of portion of the envelope, stamped by AP, is your proof of lodgement.

Just to add, it has nothing to do with priority.

Very helpful and highly recommended. This was the issue. I didn’t even look at the receipt but didn’t take notice of what was scanned as regretfully assuming they would simply scan them all as it is their job to do so.

The only issue here is, when you have a bulk lodgement they ask you to leave them there and they will take care of it as scanning through 10-20 lodgements takes too much time and they normally deal with it at closing - this is reference to lodging on Saturdays. We just wait til Monday now, as there’s no difference if lodged on Saturdays. Nothing gets picked up until 3pm Monday anyway.

That’s insane! Never heard of them skipping parcels. Even more reason to stay on top of it. We’ve reported the issue and an investigation has been initiated by MyPost Business. When speaking with them, they were quite unhappy that the PO’s weren’t doing their job and have had a few complaints as a result.

We know it has nothing to do with priority, that was the excuse they gave us the first time it happened. The tear off on the back can be difficult when lodging bulk. The PO’s get quite upset when you arrive with 10-20 parcels to lodge and then the clerk is stuck there for half an hour scanning in all your lodgements.. but I guess until they start doing their job properly, this is something that we will need to do. AusPost should be able to be trusted when lodging tracked parcels/envelopes. At the end of the day, we are essentially a paying customer that has purchased a service - tracking. If we pay for tracking and the package isn’t tracked then what are we paying for? We shouldn’t have to make sure it’s happening.

Does not matter if you have 1 item to post or 100, simply get the tear off portion, make sure it is stamped and the little green sticker with the tracking ID is applied to it. You will not get notifications, nor will it show on your AP account. It is up to you to keep the lodgement/tracking slip, and manually check tracking if and when you desire.

I use multiple Post Offices, my local agent will often help to get items out of the car, at other agencies I often wheel them in in a shopping trolley, have never had an agent get annoyed, after all they are getting paid and don,t care less who's items they are processing. Customers next in line might get annoyed at waiting, but not my problem, after all I have to wait my turn.

We scan every parcel and every envelope before we lodge them so we can keep track of every item posted. When you scan an envelope it shows up as ‘Pending’ until the PO has scanned them in. From the it says ‘We’ve got it’ and the PO that scanned it. In this case, the lodgement receipt (the piece of paper they give you with the lodgements and QR codes so you can scan if not done so already).. this is what we didn’t check to see if it had been scanned before we left. On MyPost it never sent a notification for the envelope but it did for the parcels. Once this was realised, we checked and it still stated ‘Pending’ as opposed to the rest of the packages stating ‘we’ve got it’.. I feel this shouldn’t need explaining but clearly you were not aware of how these things work.

Sorry you are starting to sound like a novice and throwing in a bit of mis direction. Your postage issue has nothing to do with ebay or amazon. What the hell does amazon FBA have to do with it, probably about as much as ebays FBOC. No idea what the number of drivers or runs per day has to do with tracked letters or anything else, unless you are paying for pickup, which would negate the rest of your stated issues with AP agents.
