Why when I sell something and put local pickup it comes up free local pickup. My customers think it is free postage.

Local pick up generally IS free, I have never seen local pick up come up as anything but free

How many of your buyers get confused between picking up an item from you and the item being posted?

The two are different options

Do you only offer pick up on those items ? (and if so, do you have that specified by ticking the correct box under postage?)

If you offer both pick up and postage, I can't understand how it is common for buyers thinking the postage is free when the postage cost would be shown

You must have some pretty dumb buyers if they don't understand what free local pickup means when there is no mention of posting the item.

FREE local pick up as opposed to CHARGED postage costs.

But you are right, many buyers rush thinking it's free postage rather than pick up only which is free by eBay standards.
