Is it compulsory to register for managed payments?

You don't have to register. When eBay implement it, you just won't be able to sell until you do.

As always, you have a choice.

Don't know the answer to your question, but:

I did sign up and have received numerous messages from eBay saying they cannot verify my bank account info. Each email comes from an unmonitored email address.

I have no idea of the issue causing the problem. Spent 15 minutes on their chat service to try and determine the issue but after just sitting on hold, with the normal (patronising) "I am looking into the problem" message I just cut the line.

Not going to bother now and the ball is in their court

Aren't some selling categories excluded? What happens to those sellers who want to sell in those categories, or may want to at some future date.

They will have to sell elsewhere, presumably. So no point registering for Managed Payments if those are the categories they exclusively sell in.

I imagine eBay, once everybody is on MP, won't have those categories available anyway. Or only for cash on pickup.

If your ebay name and your bank name are different you get an unable to verify message. I changed my ebay name to be identical with the bank and got a 'success' email.

I don't want Managed Payments, daily or weekly payments to my bank account, I prefer to let my sales accumulate in paypal, for purchases as well as Ebay Monthly fees, Why doesn't Ebay ask what the sellers want instead of forcing us into something that is compulsory that we don't want, Cheryl

Totally agree I have been on eBay 10 Years plus. eBay promised managed payments would be better than PayPal - ot is worse. There is no longer capped payments at $400- 2.5% is charged after $400 in fees is reached, and I pay the fees (nearly 12%) on the taxes eBay collects from foreign people to pay foreign governments. Seriously? eBay currently has nearly $16K of my money on hold- some of it will be on hold for a month. This is some security measure when I sell a high value item- more likely they are playing the money market. Despite the fact I am a proven seller f over 10 years eBay treats me like a criminal enterprise. No other platform holds my money up waiting for delivery when I sell an item.Not even a bank.

Leave then. You don't have a choice as to how you receive payment.
