Do I close a dispute for a return before I get my money back?

I’ve received a faulty item and they have offered me quarter of the money back and I keep the item which I can’t use and they want me to close the dispute before they refund the money. Should I close the dispute and hope they give me the quarter offered or should I wait for eBay to step in?

Do not close the dispute until you receive your money.

And why didn't you request a full refund if you can't use the item?

I did but they come back with a compromise.

Don't accept the compromise and request a full refund if the item is worthless.

And as mentioned, don't close the case. You cannot re-open a case.

If you have received a faulty item, that falls under "item significantly not as described", and you are protected under eBay's MBG.
