Got scammed by eBay plus

I warn everyone to be aware of eBay Plus. They are scammers on a different level. They took monies out of my PayPal account, to renew my Plus membership, when I cancelled about 6 weeks prior to it been due. You need to ring your Financial institution and have them stop EBay Plus from taking monies out if you don’t want It anymore, or those scammers will go ahead and direct debit your account even after you cancel. They refused to give me my monies back. It’s not worth it anyway.

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

No they didn't.

YOU didn't read the T&Cs and YOU didn't follow the clear procedures therein.

By signing up you agreed to those T&Cs, so it is entirely down to you.

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

There is no scam involved......ebay has simply taken the money owing to them for your Plus membership.

If you did not read the rules when you joined up it is hardly ebay's fault.

In the Ts & Cs, there is no mention of phoning. There is only mention of going to  the Manage Membership page. Do you really trust an underpaid Filipino monkey pleb on the phone?

Read my words YOU HAVE NOT BEEN SCAMMED. You didn't follow the rules. The very rules you would have been sent when you signed up. YOU STUFFED UP.  Now be a good boy and chalk it up to experience.

Have you been to your Manage Membership page and cancelled so you don't get charged again next year? I'm guessing that would be a no, because you are placing so much on a phone call to a monkey.

Oh, if you think you've been scammed, there's some donkey on the sellers forum who has a daddy that investigates for the ACCC, so he says. Maybe you should give him a call.

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

28 of my friends and counting have cancelled future memberships. They also didn’t know and besides it’s a waste of money. Not worth it. IT’S A SCAM!!! You are right. I shouldn’t have trusted a monkey on the phone. I never will trust any promotional offers again. Like my friends and family said, it’s the fine print where they get you PLUS your monies.

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

It's hardly fine print.

What it is is an expectation that people will to read and understand legal documents before committing to things. Not an unrealistic expectation imo.

It's hardly eBay's fault that neither you nor your 28 friends are prepared to spend a minute or so checking out what the situation is.

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

I'm inclined to agree with you, OP, though it's somewhat against the tide. Most of us here know that CS reps over chat / phone aren't the most clued in on things in general, and eBay Plus (as far as I know) is still currently only available here in Aus and in Germany (a bit of a different program over there, though), so they might not have known exactly what you were talking about - but if you're not familiar with them or haven't had to call them before, you generally wouldn't expect them to have no knowledge of the site features at all. eBay Plus is also supposed to have a dedicated line just for members, so why wouldn't someone think they can call that to talk about membership-related issues and request cancellations and the like? Really, it is a severe fault with eBay that their reps can't / don't go "ah yes, I know exactly what you are talking about, here is the instructions for canceling..." (In other words, you called for assistance, it's their job to provide it to you, and you did not get it - that is a problem).

I personally don't think it really matters that you sought assistance by phone instead of any other avenue - the end result should have been the same regardless - with you knowing exactly how to do what you wanted to do. I'm not sure I would call it a scam, but it is certainly incompetence.

Although, you said the rep thought you were wanting to cancel your eBay account - at this point they should have instructed you exactly how to go through the process of cancelling an eBay account, or at least linked to the right page, whereupon you would have seen it most definitely wasn't the information you were looking for and could have continued the quest (so to speak). Also, if the rep had canceled your account, while it does take some time to fully process if you've had recent purchases, your profile would immediately say "not a registered user", so they didn't even do the thing they apparently though you wanted them to do, either?

In any event, at least now you know you will probably get more assistance with most issues if you google for solutions, or ask here, rather than talking with an eBay rep.

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

Yes, ebay plus does have a dedicated 1800 number which is listed on any Ebay plus members membership page - I have only used it once, but the person I spoke to was certainly on the ball

There is a FAQ section on the membership page too. My suggestion would be that the OP and all friends go to their membership pages and ensure they have cancelled their membership to avoid it rolling over again

Re: Got scammed by eBay plus

The only way ebay plus is a scam in my opinion is like I explained before on another thread is that it isn't the $49 annual fee but it's the price of the items that use ebay plus lol.

They're way over priced and made to look like you're getting a great deal when in reality you're not.
