Question re returns

Hi all,

So long since i have had to return a product I've actually forgotten the  process,  I purchased a product that was a 2nds but described as only having a few minor scratches.  However when I recieved the product, the screen is lifting at the front where its had an obvious ding (not from postage) and it does not work properly issues with key board etc.

I paid via paypal but have emailed the seller mentioned the issues and said that I am happy to return via registered post for either a refund or a replacement. I'm obviously awaiting a reply but just making sure I've done this right,

Forgive my ignorance but Is this the right process or am I supposed to take a dispute with paypal?

Re: Question re returns

I think you have done the right thing. You can open a dispute with PayPal if the seller doesn't reply or you don't come to an agreement.

Re: Question re returns

Also, be careful even if returning by registered post.  If they do not refund once you return and then you make a PayPal claim the address PayPal tell you to return it to might be different from the one you actually sent to.

Make sure you communicate ONLY through eBay messages so that you can show PayPal that you had been communicating to enable a refund without making a claim and that you sent to the address the seller provided and can prove delivery through registration.

Re: Question re returns

To the right of the item in the drop down menu, select Resolve a problem and open an Item not as described case. Then follow the prompts.

PayPal will give you the address to return to via registered post which you enter details once prompted.

Once seen in your favour, PayPal will refund to your PP account but if it was funded by a credit card it will automatically go there.

Re: Question re returns

OP you have done the right thing, communicating with the seller should be the first option before a dispute is opened. The seller looks like they are happy to rectify problems looking at some of their past feedback. Keep in mind they may be closed for the weekend.

However, just in case there are problems, remember you must open the dispute within 45 days...

Re: Question re returns

The best thing is to open dispute as it is very important to return to the address PP gives you.  Some unscrupulous sellers will provide different address and PP will not refund unless you posted to the correct address.

The first part of dispute is communicating with the seller, only when the dispute is escalated it involves PP.

Re: Question re returns

Hey Super - would an ebay message from the seller with the address provided for return suffice to show paypal if something went haywire?? It just doesn't seem fair that the only way a seller can be trusted is for the buyer to open a dispute? I honestly don't know much about this side of things ๐Ÿ˜ž

Koala the answer to your question is no.

Often buyers have come here with the same issue and when they have not got their refund after the item was delivered, they then open the dispute and when escalated PP have given them the address to return it too and as it is different to the address it was returned to given by the seller so they have not got a refund.

So it is best to open a dispute and after the seller has given the return postal details , escalate the dispute to a claim and see if PP send the same address that you MUST return it too for the refund.

Protect your self as that is what the seller does.
