Scam

I have just received 2 phone calls from a scammer pretending to be from eBay.  Apparently I have purchased iPhones and they want my account details to refund the money. BEWARE

Scam

Just tell them, “yes I ordered those, when are they coming?”

Foolish move. As soon as you do that you've confirmed your number is active and they on-sell the number so you'll likely get more scam calls.

Scam

What's to beware? I had a call last week. Started off "confirming your Amazon order...". I don't use Amazon, hanged up. It's not rocket science (which is easy).

My cordless phone is the first I've ever owned (the old phone was a wall mounted standard Telstra phone) and my brother chose it when I came home from hospital.  As it is the only one I've ever had I still don't know much about the options to replace it (it has two handsets which I alternate...with the other on charge).  I'd have to order it online and it is not that simple when there's not much tech info provided about the product.

I see no point in owning a mobile - basic or not - as well as a cordless.  I never leave the house.  I use a pickup walker frame and I have problems with steps and can only stand in one spot for a few minutes before the pain gets unbearable.

My brother has got my mother a mobile phone MANY times but they always end up in a drawer somewhere, forgotten. LOL  I don't yell at scammers....I just hang up.  Many years ago I used to enjoy stringing them along - especially the ones who told me there was 'something wrong with my computer'.  At the earliest calls I didn't even own a computer.  Later when I did and they phoned I tried not to laugh as my computer wasn't connected to the internet.

As far as I'm aware, happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe Big W and Officeworks have a home delivery option. I got a phone to attach to my landline, because my mobile battery wasn't lasting, and it would shut down through the night. Not a good thing when you're on call for emergencies!

My mum rarely uses her mobile to make calls. She got is so only those that should know, have it, like Centrelink and other government departments, plus immediate family. That way, if a call comes through as private number, she knows it's safe to answer it. It was a much easier option than having to vet calls and wonder if they are scammers or a legitimate caller.

Her specialist doctor comes through as a private number, so she knows if she answers it, it's not some scammer telling her she's bought an iphone, or something from Amazon. It's a bit of a safety net for her. She's very scammer savvy, but it's still a pain in the proverbial when they constantly ring. Being on the do not call register means nothing these days. They call anyway.
