Did the seller send you an invoice? I just googled the error code and someone on the US forums said they spoke to eBay when it happened to them and they were told that the seller needed to send an invoice before they could pay. Once they received an invoice, they were able to pay.

It is many years since I had a Mastercard debit card but I found out that it was almost impossible to do a chargeback on it.
There was quite a bit of board discussion at the time and it was decided that Visa was the most reliable debit card to use on ebay.
As you say, Mastercard credit cards are OK....my Westpac credit card has done sterling service for many years now.
All other credit and debit cards are Visa.

Was your girlfriends card a Mastercard debit card too? Did you let the seller know you are having a few issues getting the payment to go through? Hopefully you can find someone with a credit card. Please let us know if it all manages to work in the end. I'm sure you won't be the last to have this problem!

How exactly are you trying to make the payment? Usually the the seller has there own checkout site where you can fill in thecard details or it has to be done over the phone, you cannot pay through Paypal as the seller does not offer that option.

yeh my gf has the same card also. i messaged the seller and told him my probelm. he said " Hi.at the moment we don't accept paypal and it show me that you trying to pay but the avs number on the card does not match sorry"
i dont think theres such thing as avs number. But there is AVS which is a system used to verify the address of a person claiming to own a credit card. The system will check the billing address of the credit card provided by the user with the address on file at the credit card company. The other security features for the credit card include the cvv2 number.
And im sending it to my house which is where i have always lived and where my bank statements go to. so i cant see it being wrong.
i also emailed ebay customer support and got this back
Thank you for contacting eBay about the item that you're trying to pay.
Here on eBay, we highly suggest our members to pay for the item through PayPal since it's the safer payment method we offer here on eBay. If problem arises on the transaction, you'll be covered by our eBay Money Back Guarantee.
Martin, since the seller only accepts credit card as payment method, you need to contact your seller for this so they can process the payment or how you can go about paying for the item. You can contact your seller by sending them an email through the eBay messages.
Thank you for choosing eBay and have a great day!
Warm Regards,

If you really want the sunglasses you could ring the seller and do the payment over the phone.
I have done that several times with businesses in the UK, USA and Canada (not all ebay transactions).

I buy my sunglasses from my local servo.
They all have to be UV resistant. Beats buying them from a less-than-adequate seller in the US.
Of course, if appearance rather than functionality is a prerequisite one could always buy from a real life shop. With a real life warranty. And a better than even chance they are what they are purported to be, brandwise.
