DD (in her 20s) went to the dentist for a checkup last week. The dentist said that she needs to get a tooth filled as there is a chance that it could turn black. The tooth that he wants to fill is the cental incisor (front) which has a small mark in the bottom corner, This is a result of her falling when she was 12 months old, a baby tooth was pushed back into her gum. At the time I thought the tooth had fallen out but approx 3 months later the tooth slowly grew back down. When she got her 2nd tooth it appeared with a mark in the bottom corner that has slowly faded in time and doens't worry DD. At this stage DD doesn't have any fillings and this will be her first.
Don't think the dentist is aware of the history of this tooth but I'm worried that filling it unnecessarily will weaken it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How long term do you want Bump.
I had 2 root canals done nearly 50 years ago and crowns put on those teeth. No problems at all, but my new young, progressive, up to date dentist insisted on replacing the crowns last year just because they were "old".
She has done a great job but admits the crowns are not likely to last much beyond 10-12 years.
I had another root canal done about 30 years ago, no crown on this one and no problems either.
