Of course. I agree.

But I have two problems with what I see:

• the sensationalism we see at the moment when there is a whiff of an accusation. 
• and that we instantly assume guilt even when there are obvious flaws in the telling of the allegations.

I also question the fine line being trod at the moment between sexual abuse and just someone being too 'handy'. Should someone like harris have been as 'handy' as he was? Maybe not. Does this mean that this is the reason a grown woman is now drug and alchohol dependant and has had a life of psychological angst? Gees, I'm Italian and if I took any of the 'hands on'  affection I had growing up as sexual abuse, I'd be a nutcase by todays standards.

I am closely related to and know people who fought in the Vietnam war. It doesn't mean for a minute that I understand what they went through no matter how much they have told me.

Calling it "simple" is insulting to victims and their families. It is and always has been far from simple.

With regard to the question about why didn't people come forward with accusations earlier. I have had this discussion recently with others - I'm don't think I would have had the strength or confidence as a child or younger woman to tell.
I could now, but not sure about earlier.

I don't think that they are standardly used or 100% reliable.It would be good if  they were wouldn't it ?

A  Deputy Principal  (in his 50's) charged in our area recently with molesting 2 young girls. They were staying over night at his house, his wife was home.

Another teacher (32 yo, married) convicted this week on child porn charges ..

xxxx was ordered to spend at least 12 months behind bars after pleading guilty to possessing 167 child porn images and videos, uncovered by police on a computer at his Figtree home in September last year.

A sample of 167 illegal pictures was taken and categorised according to the court's system for classifying child abuse material.

Fifteen of the images were classed as "category four" - the second-most serious classification.

There were 19 illegal videos, 14 containing category four material.

I have no idea what this has to do with what I posted. I also have family who were in Vietnam.............. I wasn't with them while they were there.

At no time did I say I know or understand what "they" went through. My reference to "simple" is not insulting to any of them or the rest of the family, the events occurred  during holidays we spent together, I supported them during their bringing of charges etc and still do. Some charges were dropped, simply because their evidence was tainted by memories shared with each other and no clear recollections of dates and times. Others had their day in court. Historical abuse is difficult to prove.

It could well have been me but my mother was either psychic, paranoid or knew what was going on and I was never allowed overnight stays with anyone or unsupervised (by her, my grandparents and/or aunt and uncle) access  with one particular family branch.

Sarah was the cash cow for the mother (family) so why would somone risk that income just to protect thier child ??

IMO - the mother deserves to be charged as well, by ignoring it, she basically gave permission to Hughes to continue on his merry way, and what if, God forbid, another male had done the same to Sarah, would mum have let that go as well?

You need a license to drive a car, you need a license to get married, hell you need a license to own a dog - but any FW can be a mother!

Sorry - this sort of thing upset's me - A lot !
