Aussie farmers direct

I signed up for this, first delivery this week.

I ordered milk, bread and a 'couples box' of fruit and veg, to try it out.

Was left on the verandah and I am impressed so far. Saved me a trip to the shops and running around.

Anyone else tried this. I wanted to support Aussie Farmers.

I might try the meat next week and juice.

If really wanted to, I could avoid most of my trips to the supermarket. Just trips for cat food and the few things not offered.

But so far, very impressed. Anyone else ?

ashjoma, I have not heard of Aussie Farmers Direct. Will have to research a bit and find out in what States they deliver and how far out to country towns.

Sounds good to me to support Australian growers, but can everyone participate or only a few select areas?

I think it is australia wide.

I had someone knock on the door and offer sign up and I was willing to give this a try to support australian farmers.

I think the meat comes from Tasmania, so I like the sound of that

You have to pay $10 for a large freezer bag and leave it out on delivery days

I had veges eg Bok choy, that I don't normally use, but I am determined to waste nothing , save money, so I think I will be
Doing more recipe research and cooking than I normally do
But I am looking forward to the challenge and a healthier diet, and saving money hopefully

We signed up last year and had them deliver items for about 9months. We use to get mainly vegetables and fruit, I think once we got meat, cant remember why we didnt get any more.

The fruit and veg. was always fresh and plenty of it.

I think you will be happy with it.

My friend absolutely swear by them.

I think they are active in most states but there are big gaps in delivery areas while it gets established, so some suburbs will have drivers while others don't yet. In WA they've only recently got enough drivers to service almost the whole of the metro area. When I looked into it before my friend signed on our area wasn't delivered to yet.

As long as the delivery person is good, then, I highly recommend them. Ours was great for ages, then someone else took over the franchise then milk and meat were being left out in the sun and not in the chiller bag. After I complained about this, fragile products were put in the bottom of the bag with heavy items on top thus squashing them. After a few episodes of this type of thing, I cancelled my membership.

The meat is of good quality but I wasn't too fussed about the fruit and vegies. I was better off going to the local greengrocer.

I do miss the convenience.

Hubby and me miss the convience of it, we never had a problem with them, never had problem with fruit and veg, but then it got cheaper to buy from the shop for what we wanted and cancelled the membership.

I would recommend that you try them, that is the only way you will find out, whether or not you like them.

Okay, just had a second delivery, milk, apple juice and orange juice and bread.

Was up early today, put some of the veges I got in the last delivery and some meat I already had, in the slow cooker for an easy dinner tonight.

I am determined to waste nothing and use everything I receive. More time cooking and kitchen time maybe, but that is not a bad thing, making more from scratch.

I will try an apple crumble, never done that before, but I have a recipe and can use the apples from the first delivery.

I am cleaning out the fridge and kitchen to make room. And put unused pots and pans under the house in storage.

Will have to get a folder and start a recipe book to use everything.

Also received a magazine with a suggested meal plan, so that was good.

I think this will save me money and make my life easier.

I will make my dad toasted cheese and tomato sandwich for lunch and use the tomato(s). That came in the first delivery, the bread and use some cheese I already had, and try the Aussie Farmers cheese when I run out.

What can I do with the bok choy ? Before it goes off ?.

I find the meat to be better than the supermarket and the fish. I used to get deliveries twice a week but the novelty kind of wore off.

I put bok choy in stir fries.  I wash it, slice it and put it in at the last minute as it wilts really quick.
