We have been smelling the smoke from bushfires in our area all day and now the wind is starting to pick up.
The snell is sickly sweet.
I wish it would rain, we have had only a few days in months and everything is tinder dry.

Thanks, any help is appreciated. We are in Coffs Harbour region and the fire is at Nana Glen, about 20km away near Russell Crowe's property, and covers about 1270 ha.

& I hope plenty of rain comes your way soon

You are right in kilometres Nambucca is closer, but there is a whopping wide river at Urunga whereas Nana Glen is all downhill to the coast and Coffs with no natural barriers. We always have an current Fire Plan and everything, including pet stuff packed ready to beat it. Fortunately in the past 10 years while it has come close, we back onto Bongil Bongil National Park, but we have never had to evacuate.

I really wish I could send you guys some of our wet stuff, from here in the UK. Infuriating that we get more than our fair share, and you people don't get enough.

Oh for some rain, it just doesn't fall, we have weak storms pass over and barely a drop falls.
I don't to go back to severe water restrictions because I have been replacing a lot of plants I lost in the drought.
I think i can hear fire engines driving around now (sounds like heavy vehicles) but can't smell smoke however they do have their sirens on.

Thanks electric, but we are pretty used to it. Living in a sub-tropical region it is either bush fires or the tail end of cyclones and storm cells taking the roof off.
We have the rural fire service on speed dial along with the snake catcher and the emergency roofer.
We always have a small case packed with documents, like passport, bank details and the million other details you need to prove who you are, as well as some pet food, spare lead, battery wireless and torch.
Every time I look at something on the BBC and see the lush green grass, then look outside the window and see the dry, brittle brown stuff that we call grass, I envy you. At least we don't have to cut the grass as much as you.
