Catholic Baptism question

My Granddaughter is to be baptised at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney. As I am not a religious follower I would like to know if I am required to wear a hat and if trousers are ok or do I need to wear a skirt. My DIL said that it would be formal dress. In other words don,t let the side down. This woman knows her MIL 's poor dress style:^O

St Mary's Cathedral?  ooooh, that's nice.  you might run into Cardinal Pell.  I did a couple of times.  Oh and don't forget you will most probably be in some photos so you need to look nice 😉

St Mary's Cathederal? A bit swish isn't it for a baptism unless she lives in the city?

I would say that normally just wear something nice to a Catholic baptism

But given that she chose the cathedral then she is probably expecting something a little more over the top for the event.

So perhaps she really does mean more formal - dress, heels, hat.

~ why didnt you ask for more details from your DIL?

anyway, feel sorry for ya if you're not religious, it really is too much to bear sitting through a Catholic baptism.

its not that bad actually, compared with some other christening ceremonies.  catholic baptisms are usually done after the Mass.  its a quick ceremony.

Re: Catholic Baptism question

Yes, just nice outfit, pants are fine but I would not wear cargos or jeans........the Church attached to the Catholic school my GD attends is one that requires a skirt and a head covering......for any visit into the Church.

I am intending to go to her First Communion in August so will have to find a suitable hat/headscarf  😐

wow really Az?  I have never, in my entire life been to a catholic church with such requirements.  cant imagine myself wearing a hat, i would probably use one of those triangular vails while inside the church and removed it afterwards.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

Re: Catholic Baptism question

Traditional Catholics, that is what we had to do before Vatican II. They do not like reform 🙂

Latin Mass. The Church is beautiful though. I did have to make miss 6 a thick kneeling pad for Benediction, lol.
