Catholic Baptism question

My Granddaughter is to be baptised at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney. As I am not a religious follower I would like to know if I am required to wear a hat and if trousers are ok or do I need to wear a skirt. My DIL said that it would be formal dress. In other words don,t let the side down. This woman knows her MIL 's poor dress style:^O

St Mary's Cathederal? A bit swish isn't it for a baptism unless she lives in the city?

I would say that normally just wear something nice to a Catholic baptism

But given that she chose the cathedral then she is probably expecting something a little more over the top for the event.

So perhaps she really does mean more formal - dress, heels, hat.

They do live in the city and both my DIL and her Mother go there regularly. It is pretty much their family church. My Son is happy to go along with their plans as like us he is not a believer, but she is such a lovely woman we are glad to do anything that makes her happy.

Traditional Catholics, that is what we had to do before Vatican II. They do not like reform ๐Ÿ™‚

Latin Mass. The Church is beautiful though. I did have to make miss 6 a thick kneeling pad for Benediction, lol.

ah, ok....when I talk Catholicism I usually think about the other Roman Catholics.

Jean ... have skirt well below knee.  Blouse below elbow.  Flat/low heel shoes.  Jacket preferably black.  Wear panty hose.  Make sure your knickers and bra are matching and new (in case you have an accident and an ambulance has to be called).  Go easy on make-up ... you want to toe the line between showing respect for the church with a little lipstick, and not looking in any way like a harlot ๐Ÿ˜‰ (even though Jesus defended and befriended one).  I think hats are optional now, but, if expected, a modest, dull coloured, medium sized arrangement is preferred.

Have a drink before leaving for the church.  Try scrambled eggs with caviar and vodka.

Keep a container of gin with you ... it's best kept in a small bottle that previously contained water or lemonade.  Add something that smells to it, like lime.

Cultivate a fake cough.  When you cough, sip a little gin.  Explain that your doctor told you to drink more fluids.

I would check with your DIL if nice dress trousers are OK or she/her family expect the ladies to wear skirts/dresses.

:^O @ katy's post, especially the bit about taking gin in a water/soft drink bottle.
