Have you already got some cloud storage? Dropbox has 2GB free, sugarsync 5GB free.

I don't know about cloud, but to transfer pics of my phone onto the computer I just use the share function and send it to my google account.
I know you can send them to dropbox that way as as well.
sorry if that's not what you mean.
don't know about iPad but it's probably a similar operation.

Re read your post jean. i-pad probably does come with i-cloud storage. Maybe someone else reading this thread later can help you with that. I don't have any i-thingies. If not, your son will help you.

I'm no tech head but cloud storage means to back up all your files onto an internet site. There are many free
ones available. So instead of backing up onto another HD, or USB stick, or dvd it all goes onto the site where you can access it any
time, and it works in the background to keep backing up as you work. I believe these sites are encrypted so they
remain private to the user.
I don't know about iphones, though I guess it would be the same principle. The main advantage is that you can't lose your backups
like you can when they are kept on a separate device.

Jean, that really depends on exactly what you want to backup and the size of the backup.
If you want to store an image (copy) of your entire laptop including operating system and data, that could be fairly large and you would need appropriate software to create the image.
If the size of the backup is large than you would need fast Internet and sufficient storage in the "cloud"
I would not recommend tat method of backing up, it could be a slow process and there would be difficulties in restoring the system should you have a crashed PC.
I must however impress on everyone to have a backup of their system to save having to try to rebuild from scratch.
There are several software suites that will do a local backup to an external storage device which makes it easy to do a complete system restoration with ease.
I have found Acronis to be the best one
google is your friend ๐

Jean if it's an ipad you need to check the settings to see if icloud has been set up if not then you will need to setup an apple id etc to be able to access by activating icloud, I don't have an ipad but do have an ipod and iphone here which can use icloud though have never used it.
You get about 5gb free storage with icloud anymore you have to pay for.
Probably best to get your son to help or google 'how to setup icloud' which will guide you through it.
