Computer help please

I ask on this forum because it is a small problem and I am sure there is someone here who can help.  Please.

Somehow I have clicked somewhere and bu gg ered something up.

I can no longer do emoticons, emoticons have disappeared from my past posts, and do not show in other people's posts.  The folder icons down the left of the thread titles have disappeared.  Any icons at all are missing, the stars which accompany peoples' feedback score, the button to kudos someone is black.  A few other things.

So it something to with icons.  Show icons/ images, or block icons etc.  I can find nothing in my settings that has anything to do with it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, I can see all photos.  And out of CS funny icons, like this one.

Re: Computer help please

I wonder if you have inadvertently blocked some images from ebay? seems unlikely, but you can check by tapping your ALT key.

Alittle menu bar will appear top left.

Choose tools > page info > media

there is a list of images in the top box, you can scroll through these, the corresponding image will appear in the bottom box. There is little check box to block images. Scroll through and see if the check box is ticked for any of the images, particularly anything from community.ebay.com.au

just out of curiosity, what happens if you follow this link?  http://community.ebay.com.au/plugin/editors/tinymce/plugins/spoiler/img/spoiler.png   .

I assume you have done the clear history and cache thingy

Re: Computer help please

I use Firefox and everything is OK on my pages.

Have you done a disc cleanup and defragment lately? Perhaps it would help and then turn the computer off for a while before turning it back on gain.

I had a whole lot of trouble a few month back. My virus protection could not find anything, so I asked the Electronic nerds. Took a while before one answered and gave me a link to check for malware. Sure enough that was the culprit and a normal virus protector can not detect malware, but I believe your problem may only be a wrong setting that you clicked by accident.

Hope it gets fixed soon, Erica

polk: Sorry, I was called away. If you are still having problems, I am wondering if FF is not displaying a certain type of image. What can you see under this text, if anything?  There should be three images, first one is a .gif, second one a .png, third a .jpg - they are not ebay hosted:

I see all of them.   Probably because they are not from CS area.

My red star shows in my Ebay summary, but not here.  I tried to look at forums via my ebay page, but they are still without icons, stars etc,.

This problem started on Friday.

So your problem is that your FF is not showing icons hosted by ebay.au  although you can see ebay hosted full size images.

Looking at the server sources of ebay hosted icons & images, I see the servers are different:

Photos:

Icons:
http://ebay13.i.lithium.com/html/assets/Icons/Turquoise.png

So it's the Lithium hosted pics which are being blocked. There must be a filter somewhere just in your Firefox browser that is blocking these Lithium images. The problem is where?

Do you by any chance use an advertisement blocker (e.g. AdBlock Plus)?  Have you installed any new Firefox add-ons, or other software, since Friday when your problem started? If so, try disabling them, and see if that helps.

I have to log off now, but I'll give it some thought. In the meantime, you might like to have a look through this Google search list - other people seem to have been having similar problems, so there might be an answer there - good luck:

Thank you everybody, but pimpy is the winner.   Cheque is in the mail.

You were right.  There was a box ticked which said block images from ebay etc.

Everything seems to be back.

Thank you everyone who made suggestions.  Lots of good people here.

Re: Computer help please

Yay...SUCCESS !

Glad you've got everything back to normal, Polks. It's infuriating and frustrating when things go belly-up. On the UK boards we have a Techie board, but they can usually confuse you even more than you already are, if you require their help. My problem with this site (Oz) and the UK boards is I keep getting the message 'Internet has stopped working and is checking for a solution'. I suspect though that this is purely an eBay glitch, because it doesn't happen anywhere else.

Getting back to your smiley difficulties, I personally don't use the installed Lithium ones. They look like some hideous little Gremlins. I use the previous old ones. The only trouble is catching the little blighters.
