Victoria records 15th-straight day of zero new coronavirus cases and zero COVID-19 deaths

So America is having close to 150 000 new cases a day (with inadequate testing) and close to 1500 dead in 24 hours, yet I have seen people still posting on FB that 'it's not really that bad' and 'not worse than flu'. Saying to them that this death rate is like having 5 passenger planes crashing every day or having 9/11 every other day, usually shuts them up.
I really feel for the Democrats who will have to deal with it from January. By then it is expected there will be 400 000plus dead and hospitals totally overwhelmed. I wonder if with so much of disaster will make lock downs palatable to American people.

US stats : Influenza : 12,000 to 61,000 deaths annually since 2010 - they seem to be used to industrial level pathogen untimely dealths hence i suppose their resistance to nationally mandated protective counter-measures

Call it an average of 40,000. That's 0.01% of the population per annum. So far COVID has killed 6 x that (nearly 1400 in the last 24 hours), with 6 winter weeks of the year to go.
If they can't tell the difference, then they are probably beyond saving. Although those spreading it probably won't be the ones dying from it.

3 cases in SA. The only ones in the country in the last week, outside of quarantine.
I await the alleged 'I voted Labor last time' fence-sitter to justify how this happened.

Most likely because many people did not take it seriously, were breaking the rules, and on the whole behaved irresponsibly. Those shock jocks who hid in their country retreats and kept broadcasting that it's all hoax, not as bad as flu, should be charged with something. They are those responsible for people not believe in the danger.
Sadly, there are still people who seem to not realize that while the numbers look great, there still might be asymptomatic people in the community. I just got home from getting some money out of the bank; our shopping strip is across the road from the beach, and it was crowded. I and very small handful of others, were the only ones wearing masks; some 90% did not. Fingers crossed that there are not any asymptomatic people running around.

The 60 000 was one bad year; the yearly average is lot lower. As COVID19 did not take off in the USA properly until March, by end of 12 months period the count will be quite possibly 1/2 million.
If Trump really cared for America he could shut the place down now, and bring the numbers right down; he has nothing to lose politically, and could get himself place in the history as saviour of America. But on the other hand, he will most likely enjoy Biden struggling with strong opposition from Trump's supporters.
