I suspect this will probably turn out to be a false alarm, but if not, it opens a very big can of worms..

So, if it was going to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur
then that would be in the right direction - sort of
Did they even search over that way?

I'm not sure Stalks. I'm hoping Monman will coment - he is pretty cluey (and sensible) about all this.

Seems all of the searches were conducted in the Indian Ocean.
Mindinao is a large island with a population of 21milllion
And no-one saw it???

An aeroplane of that size with, reasonably, half it's fuel load on board, crashes, and a Malaysian flag, found inside, remains intact?
Hmm...

I think it highly unlikely to be MH370 a part of which was found in Madagascar, the ocean currents and the "obstacles" of land masses causes doubt.
The "pair were looking for birds". Hmmm. Of course, one would look underwater for a bird.

I agree, Ecar - and as far as I know nobody with any qualifications has actually seen any of the wreck yet. My guess is it's a light plane and the flag and markings are a later "Chinese whisper."

I think the inference (supposedly) is that the plane crashed on Mindanao and the wreckage found on Reunion Island was a "plant"

Give me strength, an "Express uk" STORY, right next to another one headlined:
"A RUSSIAN jet has been shot down by Turkish forces after it flew into the country's airspace, according to as yet unconfirmed reports circulating on social media"
Am I silly when I think a downed Russian fighter aircraft would be world breaking news, or that a native searching for birds in Mindanao might be tempted to produce/have a sample or 2 from MH370.
Practically though TGSE. it is beyond dispute that MH370 ended up in the Southern Ocean. Its off-course track was determined by analysing hourly automatic handshake communications (6 of them) with the Inmarsat satellite, and thus the final position would be somewhere after the last report dependant on a few variables and within 1 hour's flying time.
