Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Liberals at war.

Tony Abbott insisted on $20 cut to Medicare rebate in ‘heated’ clash before backflip.

Senior ministers including Mr Hockey and Mr Dutton, who are political allies, did not support the measures concerned they would than confuse voters and anger GPs with a new policy to cut rebates to doctors. Doctors immediately warned the changes would be passed on to patients, raising fears of even higher charges than the original co-payment.

As the backbench continues to question the Prime Minister’s political judgment and the “command and control’’ approach of his office, MPs insist that the original advice of the Treasurer and the Health Minister was overruled.

Removing a serving PM is a not just a Labor trait:

“Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party are wilfully misunderstanding the Westminster system and their own history in decrying Labor’s leadership changes outside of the electoral process. Since the father of the Liberal Party, Robert Menzies, assumed prime ministerial office in the party room in 1939, the Coalition and ALP are more-or-less level pegging on installing prime ministers behind closed doors.”

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-23/lelliott-prime-ministerial-legitimacy/4908354

There are plenty who want to cut him down but who’ll do it (obvious – a “quiet word” before an internal no confidence vote), how (obvious – step down) and when (the unknown)? Abbott will go down as one of Australia’s least popular PM’s and one who never saw the next election, all pretty humiliating stuff and also for those who’ll go down with him; Hockey, Brandis etc.

As a leader Tony Abbott is awful – he can’t explain anything he is doing, has no internal radar and looks shifty every time he speaks. He was a back room head kicker and should have stayed there.

His cringeworthy speeches at the G20 showed a man that somehow rose far above his ability.

He came up with carp like holding back the dole for 6 months.

People will accept hard decisions if they see the need and think everyone is taking some pain.

Now the place is just getting worse and everything he is bungling is removing any political capital he had post election.

They appear a lazy government with no agenda. This debacle over $20 for 6 minute medicine came from his office – I cannot understand how so many people could have agreed to such nonsense – so far removed from public opinion (or common sense).

Liberal faithful must be rueing having this bum as leader.....and as there is no-one else 'worthy' as a replacement amongst the ranks we will have to wait and see which LNPer will have their "faceless man" moment :smileywink:

to am3 ref your last post and link to online The Daily Telegraph article (thanks for posting btw)

"Tony Abbott insisted on $20 cut to Medicare rebate in ‘heated’ clash before backflip "

comments to follow are @ 560+.....amazing the number of people that are calling/screaming out for Abbott to be replaced Smiley Surprised

e.g.

"Abbott has lost all credibility with voters by his many broken promises and dysfunctional government.

The Liberal party must dump Abbott if the want a chance at the next election.

Abbotts colleagues are destabilising Abbott by leaking confidential discussions and openly criticising Abbott and his chief of staff Credlin.

Abbotts government is now more dysfunctional and racked by leadership tensions than the Rudd or Giilard government.

The only solution is a double dissolution election to let voters show what they think of Abbotts broken promises."

I heard on the grape-vine that even Larry Pickering has dumped Tony Abbott after being one of his most avid supporters, kind of funny

Woman LOL

Larry explained how after a long, illustrious career as a political artist he came out of retirement to take a stand against Julia Gillard’s leadership. Now, he finds himself dissatisfied with Tony Abbott’s leadership and is not prepared to vote for the lesser of two evils any longer. He explains how there is a large gap to fill in right wing conservative politics and that Team Australia Party may just be a force to be reckoned with at future federal elections

if you google Auatralian beach Team Australia you'll find more, I'm not a fan of his so didn't bother looking at the videos Woman Indifferent

Medicare changes: Liberal MP calls for crackdown on 'cowboy' doctors in Medicare overhaul

A Coalition backbencher who once worked as a GP is calling for a crackdown on "cowboy" doctors in any government push to overhaul Medicare.

Andrew Laming, who is still a qualified eye specialist, has also suggested financial rewards for high-performing doctors, and taken a swipe at his government's recent Medicare reform efforts.

"At the moment we don't have speed limits on doctors," Dr Laming told AM.

"I think that if you're seeing more than 10 patients per hour you can't be delivering quality medicine, doesn't matter how smart you are.

"So we do need to be looking at ways to pull the cowboys up. It's been a difficult discussion that's never really been had," the Queensland Liberal MP said.

here we go, doctors are now officially on the 'enemy' list too

I don't know if there are any other countries where the Govt tries to control Dr's consulation time. One patient might only need 5 minutes to diagnose and give a prescription, the next one 12 minutes... Patients and their symptoms/tine needs don't come in a one size fits all.

I do think some doctors 'overservice' patients, for example, by asking them to come back in a week after first diagnosis, when they don't need to comeback if they are feeling good and symptoms have gone. I have been asked to do this, but don't bother.
Easy $$ for the Dr on second visit if patient is feeling well by then.

Pickering - aims to get the votes of those who previously voted LNP and are now disenchanted with Abbott. Won't be seeing many of his articles quoted here anymore then (thank goodness). LOL.

The same patient might require a long appointment some of the time with short appointments at others.  As they say, any patients that take shorter than expected allows time for catching up with those delayed longer and those they've had to squeeze in through necessity because they're so crook.
