Diary of our stinking Govt.

As it's more than 100 days now, it has been suggested that a new thread was needed.  The current govt has been breaking promises and telling lies at a rate so fast it's hard to keep up.Woman Happy

This below is worrying, "independent" pffft, as if your own doctor is somehow what? biased, it's ridiculous. So far there is talk of only including people under a certain age 30-35, for now. Remember that if your injured in a car, injured at work or get ill, you too might need to go on the DSP. They have done a similar think in the UK with devastating consequences.

and this is the 2nd time recently where the Govt has referred to work as welfare???? So when you go to work tomorrow (or tuesday), just remember that's welfare.

Independent doctors could be called in to reassess disability pensioners, Federal Government says

The Federal Government is considering using independent doctors to examine disability pensioners and assess whether they should continue to receive payments.

Currently family doctors provide reports supporting claims for the Disability Support Pension (DSP).

But Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews is considering a measure that would see independent doctors reassess eligibility.

"We are concerned that where people can work, the best form of welfare is work," Mr Andrews said at a press conference.

Joe Hockey repeats incorrect claim that half of people's income goes on taxes

Yes, love the way he's still picking at one poster for her comments re chemtrails and completely ignored those who accused the BOM of a climate change conspiracy because they homogenised a little ACORN-SAT data.

to glee and am3 and monman (monman contradicted and disputed posted FACTS and data that presented truth behind medicare problems) and anyone else interested in the real issues regards Medicare.....especially since our new Min for Health Hon Sue Ley says that Medicare costs are unsustainable etc.....

Does this Govt forget taxpayers pay a Medicare Levy (except low income earners)?

They need to overhaul the whole system in a considered non-political way ( not some knee jerk fee idea dreamt up in a hurry before Christmas hols).  Instead of still taking taxpayers money to go towards Medicare AND trying to slug same people extra fees.

If the medicare levy doesn't bring in enough.. then the levy fails.. they need to look at the whole picture.

Glee:

Yes, I'm sure they have forgotten. Either that or they think that everyone else has forgotten so now might be a good time to pull the wool over their collective eyes.

Look at the data.
Yes, overall health spending is growing faster than both GDP and tax revenue.
But Medicare spending is growing slower than tax revenue, and only slightly faster than GDP. ...and the growth of ALL of them is slowing.
I also say .....If you can't prove your claim, then you're just bandying opinion, and I don't have time to discuss opinions.

Yes paints - sacking of experienced ATO employees PLUS Joe Hockey did a backflip on this a few weeks after he announced the Govt was chasing multinationals for tax avoidance.. Then said yeah, but ,no, but... not going to do that now.

Several billion there he could have put in his Budget black hole.

Won't be much bracket creep with low wage growth.

1. Joe H
We’ve got to bear in mind that bracket creep is going to take middle-income Australians into the second-highest tax bracket over the next few years, which is a disincentive for people to work,” he said.

2, Dec 2014
Like a comedian timing the punchline to a joke, Joe Hockey saved his best line about wages until the end.
"The government's income has fallen below expectations," he told a bleak December national accounts press conference. "We have falling commodity prices and we have weaker wage growth."

Yet low wage growth is what Hockey's colleagues have been pushing for all year.

Wages are growing at their lowest pace in 16 years, and they're growing far more slowly than they were during the global financial crisis. At just 2.6 per cent a year, the pace is way down on the 4 per cent-plus enjoyed during the crisis and the mining boom that preceded it, and is neck and neck with the consumer price index. That's right, real wages are stagnant. They are barely increasing and the consumer price index is barely increasing

....how did I miss these 'graphs' ?!! Smiley LOLSmiley LOLSmiley LOL

....and these were compiled late last year-if done now would be diabolical LOLSmiley LOL

What voters really think of Abbott in seven graphs

Voters are not impressed with Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

The electorate now rates him as being as incompetent and as untrustworthy as former Labor PM Julia Gillard at her lowest point.

The latest Fairfax Ipsos Poll also shows Mr Abbott’s personal rating taking another battering as the Coalition continues to be well behind in the polls.

Adding to the government’s woes, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has again jumped ahead of Mr Abbott as preferred prime minister.

A detailed look at how voters rate Mr Abbott on key personal attributes show a deeply disillusioned electorate.

Competency: Voters see Mr Abbott as the least competent of the past five prime ministers.

Strength of leadership:Voters rate Mr Abbott as the weakest leader of the past five leaders.

Trustworthiness: Mr Abbott has the lowest trustworthiness rating since former Labor PM Julia Gillard, and almost half the rating on this attribute of former Coalition PM John Howard.

Understands economic policy:The majority of voters do not think Mr Abbott has a firm grasp of economic policy.

Understands foreign policy: The majority of voters do not believe Mr Abbott understands foreign policy, a rating worse that any of his four predecessors.

Understands social policy: Mr Abbott has the poorest rating of any of the past five leaders for his grasp of social policy.

Makes things happen: Finally, most voters do not believe Mr Abbott has the ability to implement his policy objectives.
