Re: Essendon Football Club

I think for the good of the club hird needs to be sacked .... they would do it at any other club ..... just because hes a nice guy doesnt stop the situation from being unacceptable .....

look at the ARL ..... they cleaned house and handed out severe penalties which saw a club stripped of many premierships ....and points and had sanctions applied to them for some time ....

at least now they have a better reputation because they took severe action with the club ...

other clubs have also been given penalties and been put on watch for far less serious issues ....

come on demetriou grow some cahoonas and do what needs to be done to save the sport from this black mark ....

you're right Peela,

the longer they're taking to do or say anything, the more speculation there is about what's going on.

ESSENDON has been charged by the AFL with bringing the game into disrepute over last year's supplements saga.

Coach James Hird, senior assistant Mark Thompson, football manager Danny Corcoran and club doctor Bruce Reid have also been charged with bringing the game into disrepute.

The club and the four officials will face an AFL commission hearing on August 26, the AFL's general counsel Andrew Dillon announced tonight.

Re: Essendon Football Club

yesl. I was just reading it Laney. I'm glad they didn't charge the players, because they were only doing what the were told to do.

I'm not sure whether it's harsh enough or not concerning those involved

Re: Essendon Football Club

I'm very sorry about the Bombers we used to follow them when we were living in Melbourne. My little son who is now all grown up and living in London used to follow them from there as an expat even when he had way grown up.

It's not about the sport anymore is it? It's all about shareholders and profits and I'm sure the investors see no difference between the players and the horses in the racing industry they so readily pump full of drugs to enhance their performance.

It's all just a big monopoly game.

I'm very disappointed. I used to cheer for the Bombers big time.

We will have to wait to see what the penalties are Deb before anyone can judge whether it is harsh enough or not.  I agree with you that the players who appear to have been only following the orders of the club's senior hierarchy should not be penalised.

I expect there will be huge legal challenges to any decisions/penalities imposed though and it will go on for a long time.
