The OH has developed Gout in his foot, which is making it painful for to walk and he needs to exercise.
We are considering getting an exercise machine for him to use.
But are unsure which would be the best type.
The Exercise Bike or a Cross Trainer or a Treadmill.
Any advise would be helpful.

Hi
If walking hurts his foot, then probably not a treadmill. I use one, but can't barefoot, so he needs to make sure he can put on really good supportive shoes - but IMO this would be the last pick for someone with crook feet.
XCross Trainer you are still on your feet, and try one in the store first - I hate it - makes me feel really unco and I only do it under sufference - it feels weird. Though others in the gym seem to have no worries at all - but still pressure on your feet, so ????
My mum had heaps of trouble with her legs and ankles and used an exercise bike ok - but found water aerobics best for her
what about a rowing machine? That's my favourite, and it gives more cardio exercise than the treadmill - more bang for buck
(sorry don't know anything about gout - just going on it must mean his feet are sore)

If the gout is very painful at present he won't be able to even put a sock on will he?
Medication usually relieves the swelling and redness relatively quickly.
In regard to exercise, perhaps he could try the local gym, to see which appliance may feel more comfortable. Aquarobics sounds good. Or even lying on his back, "pedal pushing".
I have see an awful lot of exercise equipment being used as clothes hangers, or set out for roadside pickup.

we had one of those miniature trampolines for one of the kids for Occupational Therapy at one stage - turned out it was a great dog bed!

Rowing machine sounds best for someone with aching feet. Still great excercise, but off ones feet. Gout can be awfully painful.
Don't know if you have been told about diet, but don't feed him Cauliflower. It has more acid than tomatoes and lemons.
