House Rules!

No not that house... the TV show House Rules.

Who's been watching that so far?

Who makes you want to through something through the TV at them?

Re: House Rules!

Anyone that lives in NSW knows that cockroaches can appear in plague proportions, and some of them are huge. (YUCK!) Once they invade those highrise appartement blocks, they are hard to erradicate. The walls, ceilings and floors are full of them.

I would not like to renovate one of those places, nor would I live in one.

One of my sons and his family lived in a Naval Housing complex in Maroubra. My poor, fussy DIL was only too pleased when son got a transfer to Victoria. Similar cockroach invasion at my daughters house in Coffs Harbour. Have never seen such large roaches before in my life. Gassing only helps temporarily until the poison subsides, then they come back from neighbours places.

Re: House Rules!

Yep, I know jus how big those cockroaches can get - and it makes me shudder every time I see them.

The owners must have been aware they had a bad infestation, I wonder why they didn't do anything about it?

I have been hooked on this show from very early on - and was sooooo glad when Brooke got evicted (felt kinda sorry for Grant, he seems to be an OK fella)

Has anyone else noticed just how tired out some of the contestants are looking? Mel in particular... I think she works twice as hard as Bomber generally.

Re: House Rules!

We had a very old farmhouse, made of rosewood that was cut on the property, outside, inside and celings.. It had a huge infestation of cockroaches, those brown ones (German?)

We were constantly bombing and even a pest guy couldn't shift them.

When we renovated, we removed 2 rooms of fibro sheeting and replaced it with rosewood panelling on the bottom half and gyprock to the upper half.

(The rosewood panelling was removed from the top half of another room)

During this, we sprayed inside the walls .............never saw another roach.

Re: House Rules!

Yep those are the German cockroaches Az, I moved into a rental that was infested, I bombed and bombed, had the pest control man in a zillion times and even had a bloke come in who sprayed the house with orange oil, did nothing for the roaches but it smelled nice. Eventually I gave up and moved, I Baygoned everything that came out of the house and ditched everything from the kitchen! Problem solved!

Re: House Rules!

No elimination tonight.
I thought it was a shame the owners couldn't put in a score as most of them seemed happy with the work done, eg: the Italian woman who loved the huge cross on the wall whereas the judges didn't.
I hated that silly toilet seat of Bomber and Mels.
Sunday night they each return to their own homes to fix up what they didn't like when they were renovated. Maddi couldn't wait to rip that hessian off the ceiling.

Re: House Rules!

Sydney = cockroaches.

I am afraid that if you own an old house they are just a part of life.

Then add other factors - close to the beach or close to the city or if you live on Sydney sandstone and you are sure to get the big black flying varieties. They are always fun to have a round when you have interstate visitors who swear they never see cockroaches where they live.
