What are your favourite kind?
Do you sharpen them or use them dull?
How do you sharpen them, manually on a stone, a little dinky sharpener or send them to be machined?
What are your preferred kinds of knives for different tasks in the kitchen?
Do you use knives as part of your occupation, in a hobby or outside interest, or just in the kitchen when preparing food..
anything else to add about knives?

No, I never store knives or cleavers in a drawer. Big no no
OH made me a wooden frame for the wall, so that I can slide
them through a slot - sorta free hanging if you will
This is what irks me about knife blocks and sliding
the blade in, blade facing down

See blades are facing down. In and out would dull them
wouldn't it? Stored blade side up the back of the knife
would be leaning on the wood

the second generation ones are better than the first, not 18/10 stainless steel like the first series,
but seriously, you can tell the difference, a whole set of 5 knives costs $100 vs, my chefs knife cost $150, 20 years ago. (so just one knife)
but good enough for the kids and general home use, I use em if I'm too lazy to get mine out, just cos they're on the bench, but as I have good knives, I use them at work or if I'm doing decent work at home iykwim, probably more cos I'm used to my knives.

never thought about it to be honest,
wood should be ok, cos chopping boards and butcher blocks are wood, but I guess they would dull them a bit.
but way better than on stainless steel, or glass or marble,

If you want high quality, sharp and with a lifetime warranty you cant go past Wusthof Trident.
They are made in Solingen,Germany. 26 years ago I purchased one identical to the larget one on the recomendation of a friend and the fact that they come with lifetime warranty. Around 4 years ago I dropped it on the kitchen tiles and the tip snapped off about 2 cm from the point so I decided to see how good the warranty was and took them back to the store and showed them the 2 peices and asked about the warranty. The sales lady went to the display cabinet and took out an identical knife and replaced my 26 year old broken one. I was so inpressed that i purchased the smaller one.
The large one has a 16 cm blade and get used for everything. It is always razor sharp and does not need sharpening for around 6 months. I use a very fine diamond dust sharpener which I have had for around 15 years.
They are hand washed after each use and dried.
They live on the counter top ๐

I make the kids put their knives in the cupboard when they're not using them - harder for the bad guys to get when we're not looking!

as sharp as yours were, mine were way sharper! LOL
but yours were amongst the sharpest I have seen for people who just use them at home kind of thing.
