Why do people here stand right in front of the lift/tram doors (blocking the way out) and then look surprised when there is someone inside?
Every time we use a lift that happens.
Although I know that Adelaide is an oversized village rather than a real city I also know that lifts have been around here for many years.
Is it like that in other cities in Australia or is it just Adelaide?
I could understand that sort of behaviour from someone who has never seen a lift/tram in their life and I am wondering what is going on in their heads?
Where I come from people line up un the sides of the doors of lifts and trams so the people inside the lift/tram can get out first. Then, when everyone got out the peple waiting on the sides of the doors get in.

I was taught to walk to the left and stand to the left of doors. I haven't seen much of what you describe................. maybe it's just Adelaide?

On more than one occasion, while we were overseas last year, I had to fight my way through a crowd of Europeans pushing their way into a lift while I as trying to get out, so I don't think its just a locality based problem.
My husband did have to keep reminding me though to stand on the "other" side of the escalator to what I'm used to here in Australia 🙂 Even if we had had a car I wouldn't have been allowed to drive it

yes, one line.
had trouble once explaining to foreign tourists that they can't get into the wrong line but only into the wrong direction.

One day while at work I was taking 2 old ladies in the lift, when we got to the ground floor and the door open one of the local pollie and his team push their way in blocking the ladies from getting out. I said "Oh excuse us" One the men said "Don't you know who he is " I replied "yes I didnt vote for him and I won't vote for him next , now could you let these ladies out:" Yes we were able to get out.
