One who sews is generally called a “sewer” (pronounced SOH-er), a word that's been in English writing since the 1300s. The alternative, “sewist,” isn't recognized in dictionaries, though it's quite popular on the Internet and is often used on sewing websites.Oct 10, 2016

When I saw the word my immediate thought was a channel for effluvium.

Maybe I've been hanging around the boards too long.

Thanks for the pattern. We Queenslanders will probably need them soon. All of us politically incorrect people know what caused this second wave. Started before the hotel, security guard debacle.

I'm not being smart  asse   but  i   just can't imagine how you'd   breathe  with a stretchy sock over your face.   Otherwise it's   great.

My understanding is that the masks are not to protect the  wearer but  to  protect others if the wearer is a carrier.

Whatever the reason it should help to reduce the spread.

Tippy, I understand where you're coming from, but as Bright says, it should protect us from the Covid spreaders.

I have a stash of N95 masks, but there's been a run on them since this was announced in Victoria.  The masks are being sold out with panic buying.

And something is better than nothing.

Dr Norman Swan has some advice about re-usable masks -
