I like Masterchef better than the other cooking comps.
Great way to start this season rather than the mass single tasks they used to do.
Now every hopeful contestant gets 1 hour to cook a dish tasted by the 3 judges.
With second chance contestants cooking for a blind tasting.
24 contestants get an apron.

Oh and what would you say has been one of the food trends of the series?
I didn't see it tonight but for me it has to be these granitas.
Every second dessert seems to feature a granita, which i take it is some sort of liquid stuff frozen and made into shaved ice.
And tuiles. Apparently no dessert is complete without a "crunch element."
See, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I cheated and looked up the results - just watching the show now.

You know what amazed me? Sashi was asked-only a drumstick? That's not enough protein for a main meal, it could put you at risk of going home. Prepare more, basically.
Then what does Ben serve? A smallish piece of fish with 2 carrots. Okay, I know there was a smear of some other white stuff but not much. Two carrots!
And what do the judges say? Refined, wonderful & understated, not too much loaded on the plate.
Of course it wouldn't worry them I suppose, they have another 2 courses coming up.
And sashi? They didn't say the chicken was no good, they seemed more focused on the fact it wasn't top restaurant presentation, too rustic.
