My Mums update thread

This thread is dedicated to my Mother and her recovery.

Photobucket

On Monday the 4th June 2007, while holidaying in the UK with my Father, my Mother was struck by a van while crossing the road.

Mum spent 88 days in various UK hospitals before finally being brought home back to Australia on the 30th August 2007.

She is currently in The John Whittle Nursing Facility with brain damage

I have set up this thread to keep you all updated on her condition and her improvements and hopefully one day, Mum will be able to read it.

She said they were watching tv and something funny happened and Mum laughed and then dad told a joke and Mum laughed again and Dad said "well, she hasnt done that for quite a while"

OMG!

Amy, I got chills reading that!!!

It must be so very hard not to get your hopes up, but how wonderful to get ANY reaction so early in the trial.

C'mon MUM... we're all cheering for you here in cyber land!! โ™ฅ

As a nurse myself I would have thought they would be really eager, interested & excited to be trialling this. I know I would have been!

i dunno. Thats what i thought. Maybe they were scared of getting in trouble if something went wrong

Amy I am getting so excited for you. Whichever way this all goes, you will know alot more about your Mum's condition and will know you have done everything you can. I have so much admiration for you.

It is just the start... give it time and keep a positive thought in your mind... please don't let him get you down with his negativity, i am sure he just does not want to get his hopes dashed.

I really hope that something good will come of this. Your mother's laughter is certainly something to give you hope.

I was in Dubbo last week, and I thought about you and your Mum while I was there.

Amy, I think you need to be prepared to be in this for the long haul. Your Mum has been like this for a long time and it is expecting a lot for the Stilnox to work immediately.
I think a long standing condition takes longer to respond than a newer one. Perhaps if you had managed to persuad them to try Stilnox sooner your Mum may have responded quicker.
At this stage any change is a bonus and proof that there is hope.

Im ok.
Really, im ok if this does nothing.
I would of liked for it to be tried earlier, but the trials have found that it actually should not be tried within the first year since the injury.
It actually seems to be having more effect on those who have had thei injury for a few years
The first guy who was given Stilnox and "awakened" was given it 5 years after his accident
